题目内容

A habit is an action that we have acted so often that it becomes something we do almost without thinking. Some of them are not good habits. People spend countless hours and dollars each year trying to give up these bad habits but often fail. Why? Change is hard work and there is no shortcut to get it. However, there is still some advice for you to follow.
First, look at why you do it. In other words, what’s the result(结果) of doing this thing? If your bad habit is shouting at people when you are unhappy or under pressure(压力), what do you get from it? It may make you feel a little better for the moment. Or maybe you have a bad habit of leaving your homework undone. The result could be that you get more time to spend on the Internet!
Next, take a look on the other hand. What are you losing because of your habit? Shouting at other people is a bad habit because it makes people around you feel bad and unhappy. Leaving your homework undone is a bad habit because you may be punished by your teacher. Having more Internet time means that you are losing the chance to learn the things you need to learn. When you think that way, you’ll find that it’s not wise to keep your bad habit! Now it is time to make a decision(决定). What will you choose? I’m sure you will choose to do something that is more important.

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could do to help her 3-year-old son Michael prepare for it. She and her husband found out that the new baby was going to be a girl. Day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his sister in his mom’s tummy(肚子).
Finally, Michael’s little sister was born. But she was in a very serious condition. The doctor told the parents there was very little hope. They kept the baby girl in the ICU(重症室). Karen was so sad. She decided to say goodbye to the baby. Michael, however, kept asking his parents to let him see his sister. “I want to sing to her,” he would say. Michael looked at his baby sister. After a moment, he began to sing. In the lovely voice of a 3-year-old, Michael sang: “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray.” Suddenly the baby girl seemed to be better. Her heart beat well little by little.
“Keep on singing, Michael,” encouraged Karen with tears in her eyes. “You never know, dear, how much I love you, please don’t take my sunshine away.” As Michael sang to his sister, the baby’s breath(呼吸) became smooth.

Lots of kids hate school, a new study found. Usually this kind of feeling doesn’t last long. But what happens if you feel this way too much? School is a fact of life and getting a good education can help you build the kind of future life you want. So let’s talk about school and what to do when you don’t like it.
If you don’t like school, the first step is to find out why. You might not like school because you don’ have enough friends, or maybe you don’t get along with your teacher. Sometime it’s a big problem with your classes and school-work. You may be getting farther and farther behind, and it may seem like you’ll never catch up.
When you know why you don’t like school, you can start taking steps to make things better. It’s a good idea to talk to someone about your problems with school. Your mum, dad, teacher or school counselor(顾问) will be able to help you. Another good idea is to write down your feelings about school in a notebook. It’s a great way to let out emotions(情绪). Remember, you don’t have to share what you've written with others.

A blind boy sat there with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said, “I am blind, please help.”
There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by. He took out a few coins and dropped them into the hat .He then turned the sign around and wrote something on it. He put the sign back and walked away.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and ask, “Are you the one who changed my sign in the morning? What did you do?”
The man said, “I only wrote the truth in a different way.”
What he had written was, “Today is a beautiful day, but I can’t see it.”
Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply told people to help by putting some money in the hat. The second one told people that they were able to enjoy the beauty of the day, but the boy could not enjoy it because he was blind.
The first sign simply said the boy was blind, while the second one told people they were so lucky that they were not blind.
There are at least two lessons we can learn from this simple story.
Treasure (珍惜) what you have. Someone else has less. Try your best to help those who need your help.
Be creative. Think differently. There is always a better way.

People show their personalities in their clothes, their cars and their homes. Because we might choose some foods to “tell” people something about us, our diets can also be an expression of our personalities. For example, some people eat mainly gourmet (供美食家享用的)foods, such as caviar (鱼子酱) and lobster (龙虾), and they eat only in expensive restaurants. They know about the “better things in life”.
People can eat many different kinds of foods, but some people choose not to eat meat. Vegetarians(素食主义者) often have more in common(相同) than just their diets. Their personalities might be the same too. For example, vegetarians in the US and Canada may be creative(创造性的) people, and they might not enjoy competitive(竞争性的) sports or jobs. They worry about the health of the world, and they are probably strongly opposed (反对的) to wars(战争).
Some people eat mostly fast food. One study shows that many fast-food eaters have a lot in common with one another, but they are very different from vegetarians. They are competitive and good at business. They are also usually in a hurry. Many fast-food eaters might not agree with this description(描述) of their personalities, but it is a common picture of them.
