At London College, the boys can go to the city in the afternoon. But they must return to the school before six. And Bob doesn’t often obey the rule. One afternoon, Bob walked to the city and went to the cinema. When he got to the school, it was eight o’clock. He was a little worried. He ran quickly to the gate. It was closed. He went round the school building to another door. That one was closed, too. Then he saw an open window on the ground floor. It was the head teacher’s office. Bob looked into the room, and no one was there. He quickly climbed up and jumped into the room. Just then he heard a voice. He looked around and hid(藏)under the sofa. One minute later, Mr. Scott, the head teacher, came in. He turned on the light(灯) and sat down on the sofa. Then he began to read. Bob lay under the sofa and looked at the head teacher’s feet for an hour. He could not move. At last the head teacher stood up and walked towards the door. “Thank goodness, he didn’t find me under the sofa.” thought Bob. Then the head teacher stopped. He turned his head and spoke to the sofa, “Would you mind turning off the light when you leave?” he said and left the office.

I cannot say enough good things about the Kings Hotel. Till rooms were large, clean and comfortable
and the hotel workers were excellent. They were even able to book several sightseeing trips to different
parts of the city for us. Next time I come to London I will certainly be staying there again.

The hotel 'a restaurant made the best food I have ever tasted. I am still dreaming about their roast beef
and potatoes. I had it for lunch and dinner almost every day I was there. I wanted to have it for breakfast too,
but it wasn't on the breakfast menu. The restaurant was a little expensive and the waiters were a bit careless
but I still think the hotel was great.

I just want to tell visitors something about the swimming pool, at the Kings Hotel. When I was there, the
water was very dirty, almoshgreen. It really made me feel sick. When my drink fell in the water I asked the
worker if I could have another one. After waiting for half an hour he still had not brought me one so I returned
to my room.... At least the room was very nice.

This time last year I was in London for the first time and stayed at this hotel. I found the workers there
to be very friendly and helpful. The manager kindly gave me directions to the London Museum and Big Ben
and one time he even had a worker take me to the train station entrance. My room was also wonderful and
from the window Icould see the Thames River.

Yesterday my son, daughter and I went to the grocery store. In front of us in line was a little girl with her mother. The little girl was asking her mother for a box of Smarties. The polite way she was asking almost broke the mother’s heart, “I’m sorry, Honey, but we have no money to buy it ”
My son was watching that dialogue. By the way, he had been raking(用耙子耙)leaves our garden to raise himself some money to buy a bike. As he watched the mother and daughter leave the store, he ran to the candy counter(柜台)and bought a box of Smarties with the money .
He turned to look at me and I just nodded. He ran out after the little girl and her mother and he gave them the box. He came back and told me what he told them. “Every kid should have a pack of Smarties because they can make you smart.”
I was so excited that I bought a pack of Smarties for my son. I told him that I was proud of him, and that was for his act of generosity(慷慨)because he gave his own Smarties to others Quickly, he replied, “But you do nice things for people and you never get anything for it .”explained, “when you do something nice for someone, you shouldn’t expect to get anything, when you do get something you should be very thankful.”

When I was a little girl, my family lives in a small village. There was a very beautiful river near my home. The water was clean and cool. I liked to go fishing there with mom. We would catch fish, look for clams and play in the water. There were also a lot of birds near the river. We would spend all day watching the birds. Life was beautiful and wonderful in the old days.
Now my family lives in the city. Last Sunday my daughter asked me to take her to see the beautiful river I was always talking about. “I want to go fishing there with you and Grandma ao much,” she said.
When we went to the river, we only saw a factory and a mountain of garbage(垃圾). My mom was surprised, my daughter was quite despondent, and I was sad—the river was my best friend. I grew up with it. Now there are no fish in it; the birds are gone, too. I hear it crying for help. But what can I do ?
