Comic(喜剧的)book superhero Spider-Man uses tiny hairs on his fingertips to climb up walls. But he could have had another secret weapon to help him stick.
Scientists have now found that some spiders can also make silk in their feet, which may sometimes help them get a firmer grip on a surface.
Spiders are good at gripping walls with their legs.Thousands of little hairs on their feet make it possible. To test whether spiders also make these hairs wet to improve grip, scientists watched zebra tarantulas crawl(爬行)up glass slides.
When they tilted a glass slide until it was almost vertical, the spider slipped a few millimeters before attaching itself again. The scientists were surprised to see little threads(线)stretching from its feet to the slide. When they studied the spider’s feet under a special microscope, they found tiny silk-shooting spouts(吐出)among the hairs.
This was a surprise because scientists had previously thought spiders only use special organs near their stomachs to make silk.
It’s possible that, a long time ago, feet were the first body parts of spiders to produce silk.Only later in their evolutionary(进化)history did spiders develop spinnerets on their abdomens(腹部)to produce silk for webs(网).
If so, the researchers say, this could mean that the silk’s original purpose was to , rather than to build homes or trap prey(猎物).

Better still, do this with partner or friend. Before we practice gratitude (感恩), we are in the dark and there
appears to be very little to be grateful for. Once we begin, a new light dawns, sometimes a brilliant light, a
light as bright as heaven itself.
To whom are you grateful in your life? Do these people know the full extent of your gratitude? Do you
realize how grateful they will be when you tell them? Gratitude is more important than an attitude; gratitude
is philosophy. The philosophy of gratitude being as a hope, grows into a belief, and finally becomes an
absolute knowing. It is a knowing that within any given situation-peaceful or painful or ugly-there is always
a gift waiting, waiting for to see.
If it appears you have nothing to be grateful for, it is because you are not allowing yourself to receive.
Just because you do not receive does not mean there is nothing to receive. On the contrary (相反), there
is always ____ and so there is always a reason to be grateful. Pray:"Dear God, teach me I am worthy to
receive, teach me how to receive, teach me gratitude". Gratitude is good medicine. One single serving of
gratitude is often enough to open the heart, energise the body, warm the bones, make your hair curl, put a
spring in your step, start you humming, and make you smile like a baby.

The world’s first subway was built in London in 1863. At the time the government was looking for a way to reduce traffic problems in the city of London. The poor areas of the city were so crowded with people that it was almost impossible for horse carriages--- the taxis of those days to get around .
The city officials were interested in trying to make it possible for workers to live outside of London and travel easily to work each day . If people had a cheap and convenient way that they could depend on to get to and from work they would relocate their homes outside of the city. This would help ease the pressure of too many people living in the poor parts of London. From these problems, the idea of the London Underground--- the first subway system was born . The plans for building the Underground met with several problems and delays but the first track was finally opened in January 1863. A steam train pulled the cars along the first underground track which was six kilometers 3.7 miles long. About30000 people got on the subway the first day . Riders were treated to comfortable seats, standing up while the train was moving was not allowed, and pleasant decorations inside each of the cars.
However the smoke from the engine soon filled the air in the tunnels with ash and soot as well as chemical gases. Fans had to be put in the tunnels later to keep the air clean enough for people to breathe. Even with its problems riding the Underground did become popular. It carried nine million riders in its first year. Modern subways have come a long way since the early days of the London Under ground. Today there are 94 large underground rapid transit systems around the world . The busiest of these subway systems is the Tokyo Metro which opened in 1927.This efficient subway has two billion riders per year and “porters ” work on the platforms during busy traffic hours to help push riders onto trains. At times subway cars have been packed with up to 300 people Shopping malls built in high traffic stations where riders move from one train to another have also helped the popularity of subways in Tokyo. Stations like the famous Ginza Sugo Eki Ginza Consolidated Station include underground department store supermarkets restaurants and specialty shops. Shoppers never have to go above ground
