The Shute family lived in the southern part of the U.S.A..Mr Shute was a farm worker, and he didn't have much money. Mr and Mrs Shute had a daughter called Jane.
Then they had a second child-a son. How happy they were ! They called him James. James was quite a small baby, but he was a fine boy. His parents loved him very much.
But there was something wrong with the child. He did everything very slowly. His parents did not know what was wrong. So one day they took him to a doctor. The doctor found that there was something wrong with James' eyes. He could not see anything. The doctor could not help him.
James' parents were very sad. James grew bigger but he could not look after himself. His sister or his parents had to help him.
One day a good doctor in a town not far away helped James. He did one small operation.（手术） At last James could see. How happy everyone was!
