　　Years ago I worked at a factory in a small county．Every day I got up very early and often did much extra work at night．I was so tired and exhausted．My whole life was hopeless．Then one day I read the following article from a magazine：

　　"A woman went to live with her husband in camp on the Mojave Desert(沙漠)during the war．She simply hated the place：the heat was almost un-bearable, 125 degrees in the shade, the wind blew incessantly, and there was sand-sand everywhere．Finally, in desperation(不顾一切地)she wrote her parents in Ohio that she couldn't stand it another minute and was coming home．

　　Quickly came the reply by airmail from her father-just two lines：

　　'Two men looked out from prison bars．One saw the mud, the other saw stars．'

　　The daughter did some real thinking, not only with the intellect(思维)but also with her heart．She decided to stick to her post．

　　She made friends with the natives, learned to love the country, and eventually wrote a book about it．

　　The desert hadn't changed, but her attitude had．Because she listened with her heart to the words her father sent, a whole new world opened up to her．"

　　A change of attitude could change everything．

　　After reading the article, I was deep in thought(陷入沉思)…

Mark Twain，the famous American writer，liked to play jokes on others．But once a joke 1 ndline　 on him．

　　One day Mark Twain was invited to give a talk in a small town．2 ndline　 lunch he met a young man，one of his friends．

　　“Oh，”said his friend，“I know that old man．He's been 10 ndline　 for years．”

I have always been interested in clowns(小丑)．The earliest thing I can remember，as a child of three，is seeing a pair of clowns梠ne is very fat，the other is very 1 ndline．A traveling circus(马戏团) came to our town and my parents took me to see it．When we arrived at the circus，egeryone was laughing at the clowns．I didn't un-derstand why they were laughing，2 ndline　 I laughed,too．

　　While I was 3 ndline，the fat clown came and sat down next to me．“Shall we dance?”he asked，then 4 ndline　 me up and began dancing．I felt frightened and I began to cry．5 ndline　 then I have been interested in clowns．They make me laugh a lot，although they still make me a bit 6 ndline　 too．

　　In life，we sometimes laugh at things that 7 ndline　 us．We often laugh most at people who make us nervous．When we laugh，we relax and 8 ndline　 ourselves．People who never laugh can become worried and ill．

Laughter is like medicine and a clown is like a 9 ndline．

　　There have always been，and there will always be clowns，because people need to laugh．Laughter is the best kind of 10 ndline　 in life．
