When we are unfamiliar with something, we may feel nervous and fearful. The help of others is a good 31 to help us pull through.

I write for a big newspaper, and I wanted to 32 a story about parachute jumping柳鼻. To make it a realistic as well as exciting 33 , I decided that I had to make a jump myself 34 . Unluckily, I¨m not good at any 35 , let alone┯音喘傍parachute jumping.

My friend Mr. Smith was willing to give me a 36 . He took me to a ground school. The first day¨s 37 included several hours of instruction but not my first drop from a(n) 38 . For this, I had to wait until the following 39 .

The next morning, I was taken to the airfield. 40 , a heavy parachute was put on my back. Then I was 41 to make my way to a small plane which had just stopped slowly on the runway. Once on board, the plane was soon 42 . I began to feel nervous. As we reached one thousand meters, Harry, my teacher, hooked┨械a 43 from my parachute to a steel ring inside the plane. The line was to pull my parachute 44 after I jumped.

^Get 45 , Henry, ̄ Harry said. I moved carefully to the door. I wanted to 46 , ^NO, no, no! ̄ But no word came.

^Jump! ̄ Harry called 47 . ^Jump! ̄

Away from the plane, and down, down I fell, arms stretched. It worked. All at once I was very happy. Then I felt a quick 48 . My big parachute had opened! It was the best 49 I ever had. I looked down. There were rivers, trees, fields and houses. I heard the soft sound of the air. This was 50 .

It was 4 o¨ clock in the morning when I received the phone call.

^This is the emergency room calling and your son was just 31 in with severe burns on his face, neck and arms. We have called for a (n) 32 and are going to fly him to the burn unit in Seattle. ̄ Seattle was 350 miles from his college, so we knew immediately this was 33 .

After he 40 from the treatments, the doctors told him they would not do plastic surgery(屁否) for 6 months 41 it takes that long for the skin to stop shrinking(抹邦) and wrinkling(軟帙). So, he had to return to college with scars typical of severe burns.

When I was a child, my mother told my sister, who had a 10-inch, very 42 scar on her arm, ^Nancy, if you ignore the scar, other people will ignore it. It does not mean they will not 43 it, but it means it will not matter to them if it doesn¨t matter to you. ̄

I 44 this wisdom on to my son. He took my advice to his 45 and returned to school with his head held high!!glad he was alive.

By the end of the six-month waiting period, he decided that the scars did not 46 , so he made the 47 to give up any plastic surgery.

We all have ^scars ̄ that we believe 48 people to keep away from us. And we spend a lot of time thinking that if only we looked differently, or dressed differently, people would like us better.

But you see, people will only judge you by your looks, or your clothes, if you are judging yourself by these same 49 standards. Put your imperfections out of your mind and concentrate on what you value 50 yourself, and your beauty will shine through.

    You Are Going Places

One day I came home from school, changed my clothes and got ready for work. I work at a local restaurant in town as a cashier and waiter.

I went to work feeling 21 . And to make matters worse, I was busy that evening. Three elderly ladies walked in and sat by the windows. It happened to be the very 26 near where I keep the dirty 27 in the boxes. Trying to keep up with all the dirty tables, customers leaving and coming in and 28 running all over the house, it was crazy. 29 these elderly women were watching 30 I was working to make sure every table was clean and ready for the next customers.

When they 31 their meals, I took their plates back to the kitchen. They talked to me for a while about school, how I was doing, what 32 I was in and what I planned to do in the future.

33 they were leaving, they walked past me and one of them said to me in a 34 and gentle voice, ^You are going places. ̄ And that was it. They left the 35 and I had tears in my eyes, because they gave me 36 to believe in myself. They 37 my spirit from being down and gave me a 38 to keep on working hard.

Many years ago,I owned a service station and roadhouse on the main road between Melbourne and Adelaide.

One very cold, wet night at about 3:30 a.m.,there was a 16 on the front door of our house.A young man,wet from 17 to toe, explained that he had 18 out of petrol about 30 km up the road.He had left his pregnant(山墅議) wife and his two children 19 at the car and said that he would hitchhike(喜宴概) back.

Once I had 20 a can with petrol,I took him back to his car where his two-year-old and four-year-old children were both 21 ,saying that they were cold.Once the car had started,I suggested that he 22 me back.

Before leaving,I had turned the heater 23 in the roadhouse,so that when we went in,it was nice and 24 .While the little ones played and ran 25 ,I prepared bread and butter for the children, and hot chocolate for the 26 .

It was about 5 a.m. before they 27 .The young fellow asked me how much he 28 me and I told him that the petrol pump(紗嗟叡) had 29 $15.He offered to pay ^call-out fee ̄,but I wouldn¨t accept it.

About a month later,I received a 30 from Interstate,a large bus company that we bad been trying to 31 to stop off at our roadhouse for a long time.It 32 out that the young fellow I had helped was its general manager, the most 33 person in the company.

In his letter,he thanked me again and 34 me that, from then on,all their buses would stop at my service station. In this 35 ,a little bit of kindness was rewarded with a huge amount of benefits.
