Every country has its heroes. The heroes are the people the nation and especially the young people __1__. If you get a list of the heroes of a nation, __2__ will tell you the potential捻薦of the nation.

If today in America, you ask the high school students __3__ their heroes, their __4__ would probably fall into three groups. The first group of heroes would be the rock stars--the people __5__ with rock music. There is no doubt that such people do have talent but one __6__ if one should hold up rock stars as a __7__. The rock stars are too often mixed with drug and their personal life. is not all that __8__. The rock stars are rich and wear the latest fashion styles. However, one should put more in a hero than__9__things as money and fine clothes.

A __10__ type of heroes for the American youth are the sports stars. Again you have a person who has a great talent in one area-- __11__. However, too often the personal like of the sports stars is __12__ discovery. Too frequently drugs and drinking are a part of life of the sports stars.

A third group of heroes are TV or movie stars. These people may have lots of __13__ talent and are quite handsome. It is quite sad that they __14__ be held up as a model for young people.

Today, the rock stars, the sportsmen, and the actors __15__ have become the models of the youth in America. Really, do you hear a young person say that his __16___ is a doctor, a teacher, or a scientist? These people are not __17__ and do not wear fashionable clothes. However, they are __18__ people who work hard to make the world a better place for everyone.

What is really sad is that the young try to __19__ their idols甜顳. They like to wear the same clothes as theirs. If the idols today for the American youth are __20__ only to rock stars, sportsmen and actors, the future of the youth, as well as the nation, does not look too bright.

A Good Custodian

I know a woman who tries hard to be a good custodian

I pass her every day after school as she pushes her cart down my

hallwayOf course, she is my building's cleaner,

One Tuesday morning I came into school and saw a 36 on my

desk from my custodian,

It seemed that some unbearable first year students had damaged the bathroom in a particularly disgusting way and she had been 37 to clean itThis took 38 than she had expected She had left the typewritten note on my desk to 39 for not being able to clean my room as she was 40 to do

At the beginning of the period, I shared her note with my first period 41 When I mentioned that our custodian had apologized to us, their first 42 was to volunteer to seek out and beat up those first year students for making our custodian have to clean up their 43 . It turned out that just about all of my students also knew our custodian by name -all of them responded with smiles and 44 for a long time about this time or that time when she'd 45 each of them in the hallwayThat she felt she needed to apologize 46 a strong reaction from many of the kids

As the class period was about to end, I asked them to 47 the floor like I do every period and thanked them for picking up any garbage 48 it wasn't theirsMy entire class disappeared; they each disappeared instantly 49 their desks to pick up those annoying tiny pieces of paper that 50 so easily from notebooksOne girl made a an 51 that I later used with my other classes:" Her job might be to clean the room, but she shouldn't have to clean up 52 usThere's a difference ̄

I believe that people know the difference between right and wrongI believe that people appreciate it when others 53 take care of themAnd I believe that people, even adolescents who are not quite yet mature, appreciate it when they see someone who takes 54 in her work Sometimes we need a 55 of the things we take for granted things like a good custodian to take care of us

One day a young man was standing in the middle of the town proclaiming that he had the most beautiful heart in the whole valley. A large crowd gatheredand they all admired his heart for it was 41 . There was not a scar in it. Suddenly, an old man appeared and said, ^Why, your heart is not nearly as beautiful as 42 . ̄

The crowd and the young man looked at the old man¨s 43 . It was full of scars, it had places 44 pieces had been removed and other pieces 45 in, but they didn¨t fit quite right, and there were several 46 edges. In fact, in some places there were deep gaps where whole pieces were missing.

The young man laughed. ^ 47 your heart with mine, mine is perfect and yours is a mess of scars. ̄

^Yes, ̄ said the old man, ^Yours  48 perfect but I would never trade with you. You see, every 49 represents a person 50 I have given my love. I tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them, and often they 51 me a piece of their heart that fits into the  52 place in my heart. But because the pieces aren¨t exact, I have some rough edges, which I cherish, because they remind me of the love we 53 .

^Sometimes I have given pieces of my heart 54 , and the other person hasn¨t returned a 55 of his or her heart to me. These are the empty gaps!giving love is 56 a chance. Although these gaps are painful, they 57 open, reminding me of the love I have for those people too, and I hope someday they may return and fill the space I have been waiting. So now do you see what true beauty is?¨¨

The young man walked up to the old man, 58 his perfect heart, and tipped a piece out. He 59 it to the old man.

The old man placed it in his heart, then took a piece from his old scarred heart and placed it in the wound in the young man¨s heart. It 60 , but not perfectly, as there were some jagged edges.

The young man looked at his heart, not perfect anymore but more beautiful than ever, since love from the old man¨s heart flowed into his.

They embraced and walked away side by side.

Dash of Hope

^Dash ̄ is a symbol which represents every day we¨ve spent alive on earth. Therefore, how you spend your ^dash ̄ is important.

Recently I 36 about a little girl named Hope. After learning more about her life, I couldn¨t help but feel it was not by 37 , nor happenstance, that she had been named ^Hope ̄. The strong feeling of sympathy and generosity 38 in her young heart made a lasting impression on me and countless others. 39 I never had the opportunity to meet her, I wish I had. It seems as though she was wise beyond her tender years and very, very special.

Hope was a twelve-year-old girl who was 40 a ^wish ̄ in early December 2010 by the ^Make-A-Wish ̄ Foundation after being 41 that she had a rare type of bone cancer. However, when she found out that more than 150 42 in her area were waiting for their wishes to be granted (糞), she unselfishly used her wish to 43 that those children have their wishes granted. She also asked that it be done 44 January 16, 2011. Unfortunately, however, the organization informed her that her 45 request could not be granted as the funds (彿署) were simply 46 . They calculated that they would need to raise more than one 47 dollars in thirty days in order to grant her wish. 48 , but not discouraged, she turned her disappointment into an enthusiasm that inspired caring 49 to take up helping grant the wishes of the other children, and eventually 50 as well. Newspaper columnists and reporters for radio and TV stations 51 the story of this caring young girl who had 52 the hearts of so many and as word spread, the community was challenged. Committees were formed and schools, corporations

and various organizations assisted in 53 money to help make Hope¨s dream come true.

Her efforts were not in vain as they continue to help others, not only 54 , but spiritually and emotionally as well. At the gathering to celebrate her life, ^A Celebration of Hope ̄ on January 16, 2011, the 55 was made that they had indeed received donations totaling more than one million dollars. Her wish had been granted!
