Mary is a nice English girl, but she lives in Paris．She is six and a half years old．Her mother says to her, “ You’re six and a half years old now, Mary, and you’re going to go to school here．I’m sure you’ll like it very much．It’s a nice school．”

　　Now it’s afternoon and school is over．Mary’s mother goes to school and Mary runs over to her．

　　We’ve got a new girl in our class today, Mum,” she says．” She’s also six and a half years old, and she’s very nice, but she isn’t English．She’s German．”

　　Does she speak English?” Mary’s mother asks．

　　No, but she laughs in English,” Mary says．” It’s good to see a girl laughing in English, you know．”
