What does a policeman usually do? It is not an easy job to describe. After all, a policeman has a number of jobs in one. A policeman often has to control (控制) traffic, either on foot in the center of a town, or in a police car on the roads. In Britain, he might be in the Traffic Police and spend most of his time driving up and down main roads and motorways. A traffic policeman has to help keep the traffic moving and help when there is an accident.
　　A policeman has to keep peace, too. If there is a fight or some other disturbance, the police can come and restore order. And they often have to deal with situation at great risk（冒险） to their own safety.
　　We expect the police to solve crime, of course, so an ordinary policeman, even if he is not a detective (侦探), will have to help look for the criminals at times.
　　And who do we call when there is an emergency (紧急情况)---an crash, a fire, a road accident, or a robbery? We call the police. So a policeman has to be prepared to face any unpleasant emergency that may happen in the modern world.
The police do an necessary job, they do it very well and I support them, but I do not think that I could ever do the job of a policeman.
Different Roles of the Police

Mom and Dad are two of the most important people in your life. Over your lifetime, they may influence you more than anyone else you will meet. So if your mom loves to read, you just might grow up carrying a book wherever you go, just as she does.　But parents do a lot more than just pass on their hobbies. Moms and Dads need to care for their kids the minute their kids are born. Most parents will do this as long as they live.

Here are some ways you can stay close, get along well, and build a strong relationship( 关系)with your parents.

Spend time together. Instead of playing computer games or watching TV, ask your mom and dad to play with you. Go outside together, or do some reading.

Be kind. Little things might mean a lot to your mom or dad. You can brighten a parent’s day with a hug（拥抱）, a card , or a joke. It’s also lovely when a kid cleans up his or her room without being asked. And if you try not to fight with your brothers or sisters, your parents will be so happy!

Do your best at whatever you do. You don’t have to be perfect, but when you do your best, you make your parents proud. It makes them happy to see how you’re turning into a great kid. Why? Because it lets them know they’re doing a good job.

　In the U.S.A. or Canada, on Sundays many people go out for a picnic. They often ask their good friends to go with them. They bring many things with them, like glasses, kites, knives, some nice food and some nice drink. Sometimes(有时), they take their pets with them. Now and then we all get ill. Then we usually go to see a doctor. Doctors know a lot about what makes us ill. They may give us something to take. The medicine often makes us well again.

But sometimes the doctor’s medicine doesn’t work. A sick person does not get well. The pain will not go away. This happened to one man. He was in hospital, but he was not getting well. Then he found a new “doctor” inside himself. This “doctor” was his own sense of humor(幽默感). He saw funny films. He read funny books. And something wonderful happened. Laughing took away his pain. Then he was able to sleep and rest. His own happy feeling was his best “medicine”. His doctor thought so, too.

Another man was ill, and he had a terrible pain in his back. The doctors could not stop it from hurting. So the man began to “picture” his pain. In his head he “drew” a picture of a dog. He imagined it as a real dog. And he made friends with the dog. And his pain went away!

These stories may surprise you. But more and more people are getting well in this way. So visit the “doctor” inside you and you can stay happy and well.
