Two men, both seriously ill, were in the same hospital room．One man was allowed to 　　1　　 up in his bed for an hour each afternoon．His bed was 　　2　　 the room’s only window．The other man on the other side of the room had to 　　3　　 all his time lying on his back in bed．

　　Every afternoon when the man by the window could sit up he 　　4　　 pass the time by describing to his 　　5　　 all the things he could see outside the window．“The window overlooked a 　　6　　 with a lovely lake．Ducks and swans played on the water 　　7　　 children sailed their model boats．Young lovers walked 　　8　　 among flowers of every color．Grand old trees graced(使优美)the landscape, and a fine 　　9　　 of the city skyline could be seen in the distance．” As the man by the window 　　10　　 all this in detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and 　　11　　 the scene．

　　Days and weeks passed．One morning, the day nurse came only to find the man by the window had died 　　12　　 in his sleep．When the man’s body was 　　13　　, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the 　　14　　．The nurse agreed and after making sure he was 　　15　　, she left．Slowly and painfully, the man raised himself 　　16　　 to take his first look at the 　　17　　 world outside by himself．But to his 　　18　　, he found it faced nothing 　　19　　 a blank wall．

　　In fact the man by the window was 　　20　　 and could not even see the wall．He just wanted to encourage his roommate．
