Lucy Brown teaches English in a junior high school. She loves her students very much, and she works hard. She often tells them some interesting stories in class and her students like her, too.
Yesterday, Lucy found some boys always made faces(做鬼脸)in class. She didn’t want them to do that again, so she got all her students together and said, “Boys and girls, when I was young, I liked making faces in class, too. But one day, my grandmother told me not to do that again. She said, ‘If you make faces again, you will be ugly when you grow up.’ So you shouldn’t do that again.”
Some students thought she was right, but some students didn’t. One of the boys put up his hand. “Oh, Tom! What do you want to say?” asked Lucy.
The boy stood up and said, “Miss Brown, you must regret(后悔)listening to your grandmother now.”

We also usually 48 that someone turns to psychological doctors because of heavy working stress. There is no doubt (疑问) that some people think stress is a dangerous wolf.
On the other hand, other people argue that stress is not a bad thing. They 49 stress can produce momentum (动力)in the end. For them, right attitude and action can reduce (减少) stress and make it 50 . Usually, one student gives a talk on Monday mornings. One Monday last year, a boy gave the talk. He was 17 and excited! When I saw him, I wanted to have a try, too.
Can I really do it?
Last week, our teacher said our class should give the talk. My teacher 18 me, “I know you want to have a try. Next Monday, you can give the talk. Go and write something down. 19 for it, I’m sure you’ll do well.”
“Thank you,” I answered. It was such a great 20 for me! When I got home, I was excited. I wrote two pages for the talk. I read them again and again. When I read, I asked my parents 21 . I wanted to make my teacher happy.
Monday morning came. I began to feel 22 . When did I last give a talk to 23 many people? Never! This was my first time. Could I really 24 it ? Maybe I couldn’t finish the talk.
When I got to school, we all went out to playground. I 25 in front of everyone. I opened my mouth, but I couldn’t say anything.
“Take it easy,” I said to 26 . “Don’t be nervous. You can do it.”
Just then, I looked down at everyone. I saw about 1,000 eyes. They were all looking at me ! I couldn’t 27 stand up.
I looked at their eyes more carefully. Their eyes were saying, “You can do it! Don’t be afraid, just talk!”
I 28 a big breath. Then I began to talk. It wasn’t hard. It was easy.
I don’t know 29 I finished my talk. But I did it. I felt so good that day. I showed myself 30 everyone what I can do.

| A.is bad to | B.is bad for | C.are bad to | D.are bad for |
“Get up, get up, Jim. It’s time to get up!” mother said while she was 1 me. I opened my eyes and looked at the clock. “Oh, dear! It’s a quarter to eight already. I’ll be late for school again,” I thought. I 2 out of the bed, washed my face, and then hurried to the bus stop without breakfast. As soon as I 3 the bus, it started running. “I’m sure I can get to school in time,” I said to myself. Suddenly the bus stopped. The bus driver got off the bus, then got on the bus again and said, “I’m sorry, ladies and gentlemen. There’s 4 wrong with the bus. Please get off the bus and wait for another one. ” “I couldn’t wait. The school is not 5 . I’d better run to school,” I thought, and then I began to run. But before I got to school, it began to 6 heavily.
When I 7 the classroom, I was wet shivering (发抖) with cold. The physics teacher had already begun his lesson. It was Mr Smith. He was about fifty years old. All the students were a little afraid of him and—so was I. I liked neither him nor his physics lessons. I hesitated (犹豫) for a moment, and then I opened the door. “I’m very sorry, Mr Smith. I'm late again,” I said with a red face.
“It’s you again, Jim,” Mr Smith said 8 , “I’ve told you not to be late, but you... ” He suddenly stopped and looked at my wet clothes. He turned to 9 and said, “I’m very sorry, my boys and girls,” With these words he quickly took off his own jacket and handed it to me. “Now, take off your wet coat and put this one on, or you'll catch cold. ” he said kindly.
I went to my seat with Mr Smith’s jacket on. It was a bit larger for me but I felt very 10 in it. I found, for the first time, physics was so interesting and how well I could understand it!
