Sweets and ice creams are not bad for the stomach if we eat at the end of a meal. If the man could not swallow the bread, it was a sign that he was not telling the truth. Although this seems very strange and foolish, it is indeed a very good way of finding out the truth. A man who is worried has difficulty in swallowing anything dry. Because of his worry, he loses his appetite and does not want to eat.

"Give an old woman ten dollars, mister," she said to Andrew. "I haven't had a meal for three days."

"I'm not giving you ten dollars," Andrew said.

"What about five dollars, then, mister?" the poor old woman asked. "That'll buy me a couple of pieces of bread."

  "No," Andrew said.

"Then what about one dollar?" the old woman asked. "I can buy an orange."
