（1）小时候，我才从秦岭来到渭北平原，最喜欢骑自行车在路上无拘无束奔驰。庄稼收割了，没有多少行人，空旷的原野上稀落着一些树丛和矮矮的屋。差不多一抬头，就看见远远的地方，天和地已不再平行。天和地相接了，在相接处是一道很亮的灰白色的线，有树丛在那伏着。
（2）“啊，天到尽头了！”
（3）我拼命向那树丛骑去，好长时间，赶到树下，但天地依然平行：在远远的地方，又有一矮屋，天地相接了，又出现那道很亮的灰白色的线。

（5）“老爷子，你是从天边过来的吗？”

（7）“就是那道很亮的灰白线的地方。去那儿远吗？”

（11）我不太懂了，以为他骗我，就又对准那道很亮的灰白色线上的矮屋奔去。但我失败了：那里天地平行，又在远远的地方出现了一道地平线。
（12）我咀嚼着老人的话，想这地平线，真是个谜了。正因为是谜，我才要去解开它，跑了这么一程。它为了永远吸引着我和与我有同样兴趣的人去解，才永远是个谜吗？
（13）从那以后，我一天天长大起来，踏上社会，生命之舟驶进了生活的大海。但我却记住了这个地平线，没有在生活中沉沦下去，虽然时有艰苦、寂寞。命运和理想是天和地的平行，但又总有相接的时候。那个高度融合统一的很亮的灰白的线，总是在前面吸引着你。永远去追求地平线，去解这个谜，人生就充满了新鲜、乐趣、奋斗和无穷无尽的精力。
