Leaping on a narrow balance beam(平衡木)is not easy. But Lola Walter, a 13-year-old gymnast, is an expert at it.
To perfect her skills, Lola 1 for four hours a day, five days a week.At the state championships in March, she finished seventh out of 16 girls.
That's especially impressive, 2 she is legally blind, born with a rare condition that causes her eyes to shift constantly. She often sees double and can't 3 how far away things are.
When she was little, her mom 4 that even though she couldn't see 5 , she was fearless. So her mom signed her up for gymnastics when she was three. She loved the 6 right away and gymnastics became her favorite.
Though learning gymnastics has been more 7 for her than for some of her tournaments, she has never quit. She doesn't let her 8 stop her from doing anything that she wants to.
She likes the determination it takes to do the sport. Her biggest 9 is the balance beam.Because she has double vision, she often sees to beams. She must use her sense of touch to help her during her routine.Sometimes she even closes her eyes.“You have to 10 your mind that it'll take you where you want to go.” says Lola.
To be a top-level gymnast, one must be brave. The beam is probably the most 11 for anyone because it's four inches wide.At the state competition, Lola didn't fall 12 the beam.In fact, she got an 8.1 out of 10-her highest score yet.
Lola doesn't want to be 13 differently from the other girls on her team.At the competitions, the judges don't know about her vision 14 .She doesn't tell them, because she doesn't think they need to know. Her mom is amazed by her 15 attitude.
Lola never thinks about 16 .She is presently at level 7 while the highest is level 10 in gymnastics. Her 17 is to reach level 9.She says she wants to be a gymnastics coach to pass down what she's learned to other kids 18 she grew up.
Lola is 19 of all her hard work and success. She says it's helped her overcome problems in her life outside gymnastics, too.Her 20 for others is “just believe yourself”.

I used to believe in the American Dream, which meant a job, a mortgage(按揭), credit cards, success.I wanted it and worked toward it like everyone else, all of us 1 chasing the same thing.
One year, through a series of unhappy events, it all fell 2 .I found myself homeless and alone.I had my truck and $ 56.I 3 the countryside for some place I could rent for the 4 possible amount.I came upon a shabby house four miles up a winding mountain road 5 the Potomac River in West Virginia. It was 6 , full of broken glass and rubbish.I found the owner, rented it, and 7 a corner to camp in.
The locals knew nothing about me, 8 slowly, they started teaching me the 9 of being a neighbor. They dropped off blankets, candles, and tools, and began 10 around to chat. They started to teach me a belief in a 11 American Dream-not the one of individual achievement but of 12 .
What I had believed in, all those things I thought were 13 for a civilized life, were nonexistent in this place. 14 on the mountain, my most valuable possessions were my 15 with my neighbors.
Four years later, I moved back into 16 .I saw many people were having a really hard time, 17 their jobs and homes.I managed to rent a big enough house to 18 a handful of people. There are four of us now in the house, but over time I’ve had nine people come in and move on to other places. We'd all be in 19 if we hadn't banded together.
The American Dream I believe in now is a shared one. It's not so much about what I can get for myself; it's about 20 we can all get by together.

The teacher had prepared a difficult examination paper, which covered 9 he had taught, and he was eager(急切)to see 10 this student answered the questions. He expected that his answer would be very 11 ; but when he examined his paper carefully, he found only one small mistake in them. 12 this surprised him very much, he went through the paper 13 , but was still not able to find 14 one mistake, so he sent 15 the student to question him about his work.
When the student had 16 the room, the teacher said to him, “I know that you came to my class only once on the first day and that you have been absent from all the others.Yet I have found only one small mistake in your paper. 17 is that? ”
“Oh, I'm sorry about that mistake, sir.” answered the student.“After the examination, I realized 18 I ought to have written.I would not have made that mistake 19 I had not been confused(弄糊涂)by your 20 lecture.”
