During the years when I was a teacher, I learned a lot of things.Perhaps the most important one was the life-changing 1 of encouraging words.
I 2 what Leo Buscaglia had done with his students in University of Southern California. In one class Leo Buscaglia and his students had made two lists of 3 , one positive and one negative. Then they 4 the negative words in the trash and tried to use only the 5 words for one month. They were 6 at how much better their lives became just by using words full of 7 .
I decided to try this as well by 8 something good to write on each paper my students 9 .No matter how many mistakes a student's paper 10 , there was always a 11 sentence, beautiful thought, or a great idea that I could 12 on.I remember glancing over my desk and 13 some of the students reading those encouraging words 14 .It was a joy seeing their eyes shine a little brighter, their 15 sit up a little straighter, and their learning climb a lot 16 .
I recently saw one of my 17 students and we talked for a while. He has got married, and has two children now.As I was saying goodbye, he said, “You know I 18 have a few of those old papers.I look at them from time to time.I just 19 my kids have a good teacher like you.” I was amazed at the 20 those few positive words had on his life.
May your own life be forever full of encouraging words in your ears, from your lips and in your heart.

"But what does he get out of the art?" I asked."He can't see."
"Can't see! You're 16 .He sees a lot.More than you and I do," the clerk said."His wife 17 each painting so he can see it in his head."
I learned something about patience, 18 and love that day.I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without 19 and the courage of a husband who would not 20 blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away, hand in hand.

Two weeks before Christmas, Mother told me we were going to my grandmother's house for the holiday.Grandma and Uncle Henry lived on a farm some 15 miles out of town. They had no electricity or running water and 1 what I considered the “good things” in life. They 2 made no plans for Christmas. When Christmas Eve arrived, Mom told me in her best “I-mean-it” voice to 3 all the decorations from our tree. She packed those up 4 all the trimmings(材料)for a complete turkey dinner.
Christmas morning dawned perfectly with the sun shining brightly across a fresh blanket of snow. 5 I sulked(生气)silently in the backseat of the car as we made our 6 to grandma's.This was going to be the 7 Christmas ever! Grandma was 8 to see us as we walked up to her door.“What on earth are you doing here?” she stammered(结巴).” We weren't expecting 9 .It's Christmas, and I don't even have a turkey to cook for you.” “I knew 10 .” Mom said as we set boxes of goodies on the kitchen table.“That's 11 we brought all with us.” “We 12 have a tree,” Mom insisted.“ Otherwise(否则), what will we do with all these decorations?” Uncle Henry quickly caught Mom's spirit. He called me to join him, and we found a perfect Christmas tree in the woods.Soon the house smelled fresh and piney as we decorated the tree, and the day take on a festive air.The turkey dinner was very good, too.I was actually beginning to enjoy this unusual Christmas day!
Dessert was forgotten 13 Mom came out with the final surprise-a flaming pudding!“Merry Christmas, mother,” Mom said.“Dear me!” Grandma gasped(喘息).“I haven't seen a flaming pudding since I left England before I was married.”Tears of 14 filled her eyes.I could not hold the tears back, 15 .I knew then that Mom had also given me the best Christmas present ever-she had taught me what a beautiful thing it is to give.

I’ve been in the taxicab business for thirty-five years, and I know there is a lot about it that is not so good.Taxicab drivers have to be tough fellows to be able to work in New York. You’ve got to 1 the New York 2 eight hours a day these days, so people get the wrong 3 that they are bad.
Actually, taxi drivers are just like other people. Most of them will 4 as honest fellows. You read in the 5 almost every week where a taxi driver turns in money or jewels or bonds that people 6 in their cabs.If they weren't honest, you wouldn't be reading those stories in the papers.
One time in Brooklyn, I found a diamond ring in my cab.I 7 helping a lady with a lot of packages that day, so I went back to where I had 8 her.It took me almost two days to trace her down in order to return her ring to her.I didn't 9 as much as “thank you”.Still I felt good 10 I had done what was right.I think I felt better than she did.
I was born and 11 in Ireland and lived there until I was nineteen years old. Then I came to this 12 in 1913 where I held several jobs to earn a few dollars before enlisting(参军)in World War I.After being discharged(退役), I had a family and bought my own cab.Life hasn't been too 13 at times, but my wife takes care of our money and we have a good bit 14 for a rainy day.
When I 15 driving a cab, ParkAvenue was mostly a bunch of coal yards.Hoofer's Brewery was right next to where the Waldorf-Astoria is now.I did pretty well, 16 in those days.
In all my years of driving a taxicab, I have 17 had any trouble with the public, not even with drunks.
I believe 18 is one of the greatest gifts there is.I know they call it a lot of fancy names these days, like integrity(正直), etc.But it doesn't make any 19 what they call it; it's still what makes a man a good 20 .This is my code, and I try to live by.

My friend Monty Roberts told me a story about a young boy.One day at school, the boy was asked to write a paper 1 what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.
That night he wrote a seven-paper 2 his dream of owning a farm.He put a great deal of his heart into the paper and the next day he handed it in to his 3 .Two days later he received his paper back.On the 4 page was a large red F with a 5 that read, “See me after class.” The boy went to see the teacher after class and asked, “6 did I receive an F? ” The teacher said, “This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you.Owning a farm requires a lot of money. There's no 7 a young man could ever do it.” Then the teacher added, “ 8 you will rewrite this paper, I will reconsider your 9 .”
The boy went home and 10 about it long and hard. Finally, after a week, he turned in the 11 paper, making no changes.
Monty then said, “I tell you this story because you are sitting on my farm.I 12 have that school paper over fireplace.” He added, “The best part of the story is that two summers ago the same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out on my farm. When the teacher was 13 , he said, ‘Look Monty, I can tell you this now. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream 14 .During those years I stole a lot of kids’ dreams.Fortunately you had enough courage not to 15 yours.”
Don't let anyone steal your dreams.Follow your heart, no matter what…
