Twelve years ago yesterday, my mother gave birth to the most beautiful girl. 1 , we were later given the 2 that this little girl, who was three and a half months old, would only have 14 days on the earth. It’s hard to understand what kind of 3 you have when you find out that you’re 4 something that you don’t even know.
As time went on, the number of days kept growing, which gave us 5 .When the doctors said that we could take her home, that was 6 reality hit.We had no 7 .
I am from a small town with 8 hospitals, but when you don’t have money, you just don’t have it.My mother tried for days to get the money, but nothing 9 each time.A caseworker(社会工作者)was even doing her best. It’s 10 that it almost felt as if we had to 11 a baby from the hospital.
One day the caseworker walked into her boss’s office to 12 again. As she walked out, 13 down yet again, out of nowhere a man walked up to her.He 14 her a handful of money and said, “Please give this to the lady in 15 , so she can take her daughter home.” She looked down at her hand with tears in her eyes.As she looked back up to thank him, he was 16 .They searched all over that hospital and he was no where to be 17 .
Thanks to the guy that I will 18 know, we could take home that 19 baby girl that was only given 14 days to live, and celebrated her 12th birthday yesterday.I am grateful to this man and feel that his act of 20 should be shared with everyone.

I had never thought that anyone was below me because I wasn’t raised that way.Every 19 person deserves to be treated with respect.Years later, I still carry that memory and the 20 it taught me.Sometimes, what we take for granted can really make a difference in someone’s life.
How have you made a difference to others? How have others made a difference to you?

Learning experiences happen to us throughout our lives. Not long ago, I had one that I would like to 1 .
I was going to Marblehead with my sailboat team. The team was racing down the highway at 85 mph 2 we realized we were 3 .Luckily, we saw a rest area ahead.I had a brand new $20 bill.I was so 4 because I had never had that kind of cash before. But spending it on 5 seemed like throwing it away.We all rushed into the pizza line. 6 I got a pizza and a drink, and walked to my table.About half way through the meal, I 7 I had not actually handed any money to the cashier.I had just 8 out, and nobody had noticed, I felt terrible.
My conscience(良心)opened its mouth and swallowed me in one big bite.I couldn’t 9 over it.I just couldn’t go back to the cashier and 10 for my stolen pizza.I was so upset that I 11 to give myself the pleasure of an ice-cream for 12 that someone would say, “ Hey, Jeff, why don’t you use the change 13 the pizza instead of that nice, new $20 bill?” I was not so 14 of my cash now.
For the next two years, whenever I was 15 of the “pizza incident”, I would say to myself, “ Don’t think about it…”
I have learned two things from this 16 .Maybe I was a fool for 17 in to my conscience, and being too stupid to appreciate a 18 pizza. But the real lesson is that even if you get away from what you have done, your conscience 19 up with you.
This reflect the saying, “A coward(懦夫)dies a thousand deaths; a hero dies one.” I was a coward and have felt terrible about that incident at least a thousand times. If I had been a “ 20 ” and gone back to pay for the pizza, I would have felt a little uncomfortable about it only once, or maybe twice.

I've always loved pigeons(鸽子).Some years ago I managed to persuade my wife to let me buy a few and start 1 them myself. They cost a lot of money and so it spoilt(破坏)our 2 a bit, but my wife never actually stopped me so I 3 carried on.I learnt so much about them that I could 4 a good racer anywhere and I bought some beauties. My pigeons won some top races, and I even began to make a bit of 5 .
You see, people are prepared to pay big prices if they get to know that your pigeons are 6 big prizes.
My wife had been changing her 7 to the pigeons over the last year or two anyway. She was quite 8 of all the prizes we’d won. Then there was the travelling, which she liked. You see some one has to take the pigeons a 9 way off and set them free. Some of the 10 were really nice.I never travelled.I used to like to wait at home and see them come in.They’ve got this wonderful sense of 11 , which can bring them back home so quickly. They’d flown hundreds of miles sometimes 12 storms or against strong winds. And there they’d come, tiny white birds against the great 13 .Then I'd watch them 14 round and come down onto the landing shelf.I'd look at my watch and think, “My goodness, that’s a good 15 .”And I'd take off the little leg ring and push it through the machine to 16 what time he’d arrived. Then my wife would 17 up and say, “Has he arrived yet?” Then we would work out if we’d won 18 .
Then last year we had a 19 ! All of them got some sort of flu and 20 .It was terrible.I had to burn them all.We lost a fortune, of course.
