Tom Lee is determined to help people suffering from multiple sclerosis(硬化症).Sometimes he 1 a 300-mile bike ride in two days to prove it.
“It's a very 2 disease,” Lee, 72, said.“I've met a lot of people with MS in the last 19 years.I've been 3 by their strength of character. They're a very 4 group of people.” That courage inspired Lee to find his own. 5 he enjoyed biking as a child 6 up in Ireland, he didn't start riding long 7 until he worked for Westinghouse in Minnesota. It was 1991 8 he did his first 150 miles in two days. He's been 9 ever since.
This weekend, Lee will ride from Miami to Key Largo during a biking event called the Maroon MS 150 Bike 10 .In September, he will ride from Kerry to Derry in Ireland where he will 11 300 miles in two days.Between the two events, he plans to 12 thousands of dollars. He sends letters to 100 people to collect the money, and most of the money he's collected has 13 to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.Lee enjoys 14 himself to achieve more.In 1992, he 15 to ride from Boca, Raton to Jacksonville and back.He did the ride for nine years.“I collected more than I 16 did,” he said.
Here's Lee's 17 to a successful ride:drink water, eat every hours, ride 18 and never think about how far you’re riding. It's not keeping 19 that helps Lee finish a bike ride, although he rides his bike 50 to 60 miles every week.He said, “I just have a lot of stamina(耐力), which is very 20 for long races, and I'm strong-willed.”

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his boss of his plan to 1 the house business and live an easier life with his 2 enjoying his extended family, 3 their grandchildren. He would miss the paycheck, but he really needed to 4 .
The boss was sorry to see his 5 worker go and asked if he could build one more house as a personal 6 .The carpenter agreed, but 7 it was easy to see that his heart was 8 in his work.He 9 poor workmanship and used bad materials. It was a(n) 10 way to end his career.
When the carpenter finished his work and the boss came to inspect the house, he handed the front door key to the carpenter.“You always do your work well. This is 11 house,” he said, “my gift to you.”
What a shame! If he 12 he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he has to live in the home he had built none too 13 .
So it is 14 us.We build our lives in an absent minded way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best.At important points we do not give the job our best 15 .Then 16 a shame we fall into the 17 we have created and 18 that we are now living in the “house” we have 19 .If we had realized it, we should have done it 20 .
Your life today is the result of your attitudes and choices in the past.Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and choices of today.

Minutes later, an American doctor and nurse were 2 .They found the girl was 3 injured and would die of 4 of blood, without quick action.
A donor(献血者)with a 5 blood type was required. But a quick 6 showed that none had the correct type except several of the 7 orphans.
The doctor tried, in English, to explain to their young, 8 audience that unless they could 9 some of the girl's lost blood, she would certainly die. Then they asked if anyone would be willing to give blood to help.
Their request was 10 with wide-eyed silence. After several long moments, a small hand 11 went up.

After a moment, the boy stopped 17 .Glancing up, the nurse said to the Americans, “He thought he was dying. He thought you had asked him to give all his blood 18 the girl could live.”
“But why would he be willing to?” asked the doctor.
To this question, the boy answered 19 , “She's my friend.”
As the doctor 20 it:Greater love has no man than this.

After much thought, I decided to 3 and publish a story book as my proposal which will 4 two of Emily's loves: 5 (her life-long pursuit)and pigs(her favorite animal).
I asked a(n) 6 teacher to help me with the cartoon illustration.I wrote about two little pigs, which I named Emmy and Matty, which meet in a college, just like Emily and me.My story 7 their journey through the years.
My hard work 8 .My creation came out 9 a real book, 10 printed and bound. After all these years, I would surprise Emily.
As she read the first few 11 , she started to catch on that I had written a hook for her, but had no 12 it would change both of our lives forever.
As she 13 the proposal page, I asked her to stand up.I bent down on one 14 as I watched her eyes follow the words on the paper that simply said, “Emily Suzanne…Will You Marry Me?” She was speechless as she 15 and saw me with a 16 in my hand.
17 , she closed the book and gave me a big hug.“Yes, yes and yes! Of course I love you!”
I wiped the 18 from her eyes and 19 her to turn to the last page of her storybook proposal-an illustration of pigs dressed in wedding gown and tuxedo.
It read, in appropriate storybook fashion, “Emmy and Matty lived happily 20 after.”
