Protecting China's Giant Pandas

China's giant pandas show the achievement of the international effort to save animals that are now in danger. In television programs we often see pandas 1 funny games. Children have panda toys and beautiful cards with pictures of lovely 2 in them. They often visit the giant pandas in the zoo on 3 holidays and have a good time there. However, scientists are worried about the 4 of giant pandas. They know only about 1£¬000 giant pandas remain 5 today. They think the giant panda will die out in 30 years if the present conditions are not 6 .

It is reported that the giant pandas have a very 7 birthrate. About 115 pandas live in zoos and research centers mainly in China, but during the past 10 years they 8 only 34 9 pandas that are still alive. Survival rate for giant pandas in the wild are probably the same or lower.

There are several reasons for the low 10 .The main reason is 11 male pandas can make love with females in a very 12 season¡ªonly a few days a year. When they do have babies, females often produce two pandas, but the mother is usually not able to care for 13 of them. The newborn pandas 14 only a few kilograms each. They are too weak to live without special care. In the zoo, scientists can help the mothers 15 the young pandas, but those living in the wild do not get enough 16 .It is very difficult for mother pandas to bring up their young pandas.

¡¡¡¡Conditions for the giant pandas have been worse in recent years. Pandas in China continue to 17 in number. We know pandas live on bamboos. But sometimes all the bamboos in one area die. The pandas there have 18 to eat and die of hunger.

Giant pandas now live in 13 separate 19 areas in China. Several years ago the Chinese government and the International Wild Life Organization agreed 20 a project of protecting giant pandas in the wild. We hope it could be helpful.

Accidental discoveries have often opened the door to beauty and wonder. The rock paintings in France that date back 15 000 years, for example,¡¡1¡¡by two boys who were looking for shelter from the rain. The paintings ¡¡2¡¡became ¡°the find of last century¡±.Or,the Sanxingdui Ruins, known by historians as ¡°the Ninth Wonder of the World¡±,were discovered in Sichuan Province by a farmer.?

In the spring of 1929,Yan Qingbao, then a 43-year-old ¡¡3¡¡,discovered a circular piece of jade(Óñ)while digging a hole.¡¡4¡¡ by curiosity,he dug deeper and found a group of about 400 colourful jade pieces. At the time,he had no idea his discovery would be¡¡5¡¡?important as other wonders of the world ¡¡6¡¡,China's Great Wall and Egypt's pyramids.?

Since then, more than 10 000 relics(ÎÄÎï),dating back to between 5000 and 3000 BC have been unearthed(³öÍÁ) at Sanxingdui. These relics¡¡7¡¡ gold, pottery(ÌÕÆ÷),bone tools and ivory(ÏóÑÀ)objects. They prove that Sanxingdui contains the ruins of an ancient city that was once the political, economic and cultural center of the ancient Shu Kingdom¡ªthe old name for Sichuan.?

It has 8¡¡ modern historians realize that Sichuan's human history went back ¡¡9¡¡ five thousands years, and located on the upper part of the Yangtze River. The site challenges the common idea ¡¡10¡¡Chinese civilization rose from a single source¡ªthe Yellow River valley.Sanxingdui was named the Scientific Education Base for China's Youth in March this year.?

But still, only four of the Sanxingdui Ruins' 12 square kilometers have been uncovered.Who knows what other big surprises are waiting to be shown to the world?

When I was a college student,I did a lot of traveling abroad. That was because a professor¡¡1¡¡me to do so.She said,¡°Now is the time for you to travel around the world,¡¡2¡¡your knowledge through actual experiences and have fun!¡±I¡¡3¡¡ her.

Since I started to work for a ¡¡4¡¡ company, however,I have done most of my traveling through the Internet.By using the Internet,I have seen the ¡¡5¡¡of many cities on my computer screen. And I have really made business ¡¡6¡¡ too. With the help of the Internet,I have also got ¡¡7¡¡about food in different countries.?

¡¡¡¡Therefore,I was beginning to feel that actual trips were ¡¡8¡¡necessary when I happened to read a famous chef's(³øʦ)comment on the Internet. He said:¡°It is very difficult to have Italian food in a foreign country, because we enjoy food and the¡¡9¡¡ around us at the same time.So why don't you fly over to Italy and enjoy real Italian ¡¡10¡¡?¡± Those words reminded me of my ¡¡11¡¡advice.As information technology¡¡12¡¡you might be able to do without making some real trips. But this also means that you will miss the various ¡¡13¡¡you can get from traveling.?

Today there are people who ¡¡14¡¡direct communication with others and spend much of their time on the Internet. It is not surprising to see a group of people?15¡¡?not with each other but into their micro phones. It seems as if such people are 16¡¡by an invisible wall. They seem to be losing out on a good chance to?¡¡17¡¡? and talk with other people.I do not think that they are taking good advantage of information technology. We should use information technology as a tool to make our daily¡¡18¡¡more fruitful. However,we should never let it ¡¡19¡¡ our time for facetoface communication.??

¡¡¡¡Let's make use of information technology more ?20¡¡?,and have great fun in experiencing the actual world.?
