My Unforgettable Travel

Besides going by car, there are three other ways to get across the country:planes, trains and buses.Air travel is the most expensive of the three but in many ways the easiest and most comfortable. There are hundreds of flights a day criss-crossing the country, and it is easy to make an order. You will get to your destination(目的地)quickly and find the services(服务)at the airports excellent. There will be connecting bus services to the center of town, car rental agencies and porters(出租公司和搬运工).

Traveling by train is cheaper than by airplane. In the past, train service was poor but in recent years the government has changed the service with AMTRAK, the nationalized train system. You can travel first or second class.Your ticket is for the journey only, sleeping and dining conditions will be extra. The most inexpensive way to travel is by bus.Continental railways and Greyhound can buy special tickets that allow you unlimited travel for a certain period of time.In this way you can stop along the way to visit the places that interest you most.

If you do travel long distances, be ready for the time changes. There are four time zones(时区)in the continental USA, starting on the East Coast with Eastern Standard Time(EST), then moving west to Central Standard Time(CST), Mountain Standard Time(MST).If you travel east to west, you gain one hour each time you enter a new time zone.

  Seeing America by Car

A good way to see the USA is by car.Americans love their cars and in the past fifty years they have developed a vast network of roads and freeways to help them reach their destinations.

As few visitors have their own cars, renting one is the next best thing. You will need a valid driver’s license(it is best to have an international driver’s license)and either international credit cards(信用卡)(Diners, American Express), or a deposit(存折).

You should start out with a working knowledge of the road. You travel from state to state and this can be very exciting to a newcomer. For example, in some states it is legal(合法)to turn right at a red light if there is no closing traffic, while in other states you will be fined(罚款)for this action.

People can enjoy vast(广袤的)areas of wild beauty.Throughout the country, animal and plant life is now protected by law, Americans are learning to be conservationists(天然资源保护者).

I used to paint portraits for a living.People would ask me, “What is the secret to getting a likeness?”

There’s no secret.Getting a painting to look like a person 1 (depend)on a thousand things. It’s in the 2 (eye)and getting the right size, slant, colour and distance apart. It’s in the angle of the nose. It’s in the shape of the mouth and getting 3 particular curve of the lips. 4 there’s the skin tone, the shape and tilt of the head, the expression…

Which makes painting like playing a round of golf-a thousand things matter.

To hit just one good shot, you picture it 5 your mind, you bend your knees, keep your head still, relax your grip, take a smooth swing, forget this morning’s 6 (argue)with your girlfriend, relax your body, choose the right club, watch the ball.

Success at 7 is not the result of doing one big thing “right”.It is the sum total of doing hundreds of things as well as you 8 , consistently and repeatedly.

Improvement is the result of getting 9 at each little thing.

Losers hope that a lucky break is someday going to change their lives.

Winners know 10 consistent effort in all the little things, every day, changes your life.

In a nutshell, the secret is:there is no secret.

Are you easily influenced by one 2 of advice today and then by another one tomorrow?

Obviously, you might think that 3 (go)to extremes is not the right way, for the importance of having a variety of food in one’s diet is quite clear today.Scientists have again and 4 warned us that 5 lack of certain kinds of food is dangerous, 6 for children, because 7 a balanced diet, their body can’t grow properly.Scientists have also told us, “Having too much of anything, including one’s favorite food, is equally dangerous.”

They say, for example, children 8 eat lots of cheeseburgers and milk shakes will increase the risk of heart attack.

Therefore, it seems that perhaps the most intelligent thing for us to do is not to eat first but to read first. 9 (science)information about the body’s needs for fats and proteins, for minerals and vitamins, can help us decide on the right choice and the right amount. And it can also help us tell facts 10 misleading opinions.
