Tim Becker and his neighbors are doing something to make their neighborhood a trouble-free area.

When Tim Becker gets in his car to go shopping, he doesn’t 1　　　　   drive to a store and back home. He always looks carefully up and down the streets of his neighborhood. He looks for anything 2　　　　    such as strange cars, loud noises, broken windows, or people gathering on street corners.

Tim 3　　     to a neighborhood watch group in Stoneville, Indians, USA. The neighborhood watch group 4　　    on the third Wednesday of every month. That’s when Tim gets together with about ten of his neighbors to discuss community safety. Members of the neighborhood watch group want to help the police 5　　   their homes, streets, and families safe.

Mrs. Stedman, president of 6　　  _____     neighborhood watch group, agrees with Tim. “People seem to think that crime (犯罪)  happens to other people but not 7　　    them. Well, it’s never happened to me.” She said, “but I don’t think anyone has the 8　　     to steal from other people or to make them feel 9　　   sitting in their own homes.”

Alex, a member of the group, said that all the neighbors look out for one another. “We 10　　   each other’s homes. We keep watch on the neighborhood at night and on weekends.     Many of the world’s pollution problems have been caused by the crowding of large groups of people into the cities. I was being interviewed by a senior manager of an insurance company. I told him honestly that the main __1__ that I was interviewing with them was my need to __2__ my family in Boston. Stranger in the Flames

On the morning of May 29, Donna left unusually early for her 5:30 a.m. work at Noone’s Restaurant. She drove along a rural road,    1    as she often did to admire the old farmhouse she passed each day. But as she looked more    2   , she saw flames on one of the porch’s(门廊) posts. After lunch, without their parents’   1   ,the two boys set off to explore the beach which is beyond the headland(岬) . Miss Green was watching TV to relax herself after a day’s work. Suddenly the program    1   .“Sorry to interrupt the program. While you are much safer inside than out, lightning can strike you even in the home. Here's how to   1   yourself indoors:
