Some suggestions about learning English!

We may all have heard about the old saying that interest leads one towards success. According to this saying, we’d better develop our interest in English at the very beginning of our study. To develop interest in your English study is not very hard. We may have the feeling of satisfaction and achievement from our English study when we find that we are able to say something not very complicated in English, or talk with foreigners in English.

We will be amazed that the foreigners can understand our English and say “you speak good English”…

Plans are always very essential, so we must make some elaborate and workable (feasible) plans before we study. For example, you can plan to learn 20 new words every day. Once the plans are made, we should carry out these plans to the letter. Remember: Plans are essential, but those unattainable(不能实现的) plans will make you feel frustrated!

Taking notes is one important technique in studying. Good memory can not replace the function of notes. Notes should be taken whenever we study. As we know, notes are the summarization, the core content, or our understanding of the books that we read. It would be easier for us to remember the content by referring to our notes, which may be thinner than our books. Sometimes it would be useful to draw some tables, diagrams or illustrations that are very impressive, visual and concise. All these can help us in memorizing the content that we learn.

Watching English movies, English TV programs, listening to English songs and learn English on some special occasions are also excellent ways in learning English, as we may relate English to certain scenes so as to deepen our memory.

Once again for the learning of vocabulary: never just memorize single English words. If you only remember certain words, you still don't quite understand their proper usage. Therefore, it is imperative that you learn by heart the whole sentences and the phrases that contain the new words so that we can know how to use the words in a proper way.

As nanny(保姆), cook, cleaner, shopper, driver, and gardener, she has one of the most demanding jobs in Britain today. And paying someone else to do the chores(家务活) which take the average housewife 71 hours a week would cost £349.

At over£18,000 a year that’s more than the earnings of 70 percent of the population, including train drivers, firemen, prison officers, and social workers. Looking after a baby less than a year old takes a housewife into an even higher pay league. According to a study, she earns £457 a week-at nearly £24,000 a year, the same as teachers , engineers, and chemists.

Researchers put a price on each chore, then tried to find out how long the average person takes doing them. They found housewives spend an average 70.7 hours a week on housework-with looking after the children(17.9 hours) and cooking and cleaning (12.3 hours each) the most time-consuming(费时).

A wife with a part time job still works an average of 59 hours a week at home. Those in full-time employment put in longer hours at home than in the workplace. The good news is that these hours drop sharply as children get older. While the average mother with a child under one puts in 90 hours weekly, the figure drops to 80 hours from one to four and to 66 hours from five to ten.

Mother-of-four Karen Williams from London said, “Paying the housewives may not be practical, but the government should recognize the value of housework, perhaps through the tax. Running a house takes a lot of time and most husbands don’t understand this. For example, my husband only puts a shelf up now and again. He never cleans the kitchen—that’s the real test.”
