Once at the end of a term,we had to take an important test on chemistry. The test had a hundred questions. Beside each question we had to write "True" or "False". While I was studying in my room the night before the test,Fred was watching TV. Fred usually worried a lot the night before a test. But on that night he looked perfectly calm. Then he told me of his plan. "It's very simple. There are a hundred questions and I have to get fifty correct to pass the test. I'll take a coin into the examination room. I haven't studied my chemistry book for months,so I'll just toss the coin. That way,I'm sure I'll get half the questions right."

The next day , Fred came happily into the exam room. As he sat tossing a coin for half an hour,he marked down his answers. Then he left, half an hour before the rest of us.

New rules and behavior standards for middle school students came out in March. Middle schools are going to use a new way to decide who the top students are. The best students will not only have high marks(分数).they will also be kids who don't dye their hair, smoke or drink. The following are some of the new rules.

Tell the truth. Have you ever copied someone else's work in an exam? Don't do it again! That's not something an honest(诚实的)student should do. If you have played computer games for two hours in your room, don't tell your parents you have been doing your homework.

Participate in more school activities. Good students are kind to other people and love animals. April is Loving Bird Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate? You should join ! The fire burns high when everybody adds wood to it. You can learn more about animals and how to protect them.

Have you ever quarreled with your teammates when your basketball team lost? Only working together can make your team stronger. Be tolerant and generous to others , but strict with yourself.

Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon? Maybe you'll discover Earth H some day. Don't laugh at new ideas. Everyone's ideas are important. You should welcome them, because new ideas make life better for everyone.

Protect yourself. Has anyone ever taken money from your classmates? Don't let it happen to you. If you have to go home late, you should take care of yourself and let your parents know.

Use the Internet carefully. The Internet can be very useful for your studies. But some things on the Internet are not suitable for kids. So only keep to web pages that are good for you.  Making friends is a skill. Like most skills,it improves with practice. If you want to meet people and make friends, you must be willing to take some action. You must first go where there are people. You won't make friends staying home alone.

Join a club or a group. Talking with those who like the same things as you do is much easier. Or join someone in some activity.

Many people are nervous when talking to new people. After all, meeting strangers means facing the unknown. And it's human nature to feel a bit uncomfortable about the unknown.

Most of our fears about dealing with new people come from doubts about ourselves. We imagine other people are giving an opinion about us——finding us too tall or too short, too this or too that. But don't forget that they must be feeling the same way. Try to accept(接受)yourself as you are,and try to put the other person at ease(不拘束).You'll both feel more comfortable.

Try to keep self-confident(自信)even when you don't feel that way when you enter a room full of strangers, such as a new classroom. Walk tall(址高气扬)and straight, and look directly at other people and smile.

If you see someone you'd like to speak to,say something. Don't wait for the other person to start a conversation.

Just meeting someone new does not mean that you will make friends with that person― friendship is based on each other's liking and " give and take". It takes time and efforts to develop. And there are things that keep a new friendship from growing.

Is there someone you hate? Well, maybe you don't really hate them, but you get really angry every time you think of them. If you don't let this anger go,it can turn into bitterness(痛苦).

Bitterness appears when we can't forgive(原谅)someone who has hurt us or made us angry. Someone might say or do something that hurts us. And instead of resolving(化解)the anger,we keep it deep inside. Before long,a bitter feeling begins to grow. We may think we're hurting that person by criticizing(指责)him or her often, but we're really only hurting ourselves.

Bitterness can not only lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, but also hurt our relationships with friends and family members. No one enjoys getting along with an angry person for long.

If you see bitterness in your life , here are some ways to deal with it.   Accept It

Instead of trying to deny your anger, make it clear to yourself and accept it. Face your anger and quickly deal with it.

  Stop Making Excuses for It

You may feel you have a right to be angry. You may think you're right and the other person is wrong. You may even secretly enjoy making the other person look bad. But in the end, bitterness hurts you much more than the other person. The bitterness will hold you back, and the other person will go on with his or her life.

  Forgive and Forget It

You probably can't completely put the anger out of your mind. But you can decide to try right now and forgive the other person. Forget it and move on. You'll enjoy better health and peace of mind.
