题目内容

I believe that one of the best ways to connect with people and build quality relationships is through making conversation. Although most people can hold a conversation, only a few are smooth when they talk. I have discovered five simple and effective ways to be a smooth talker. Here they are:

Talk slowly

Generally, good talkers don’t rush into a conversation. 1.____ They act as if they have all the time in the world. This makes them come off as centered and collected. Model this way of talking and you will create the same effect.

Hold more eye contact

Most people keep eye contact about 2/3 of the time or less when they talk. 2.____ This will convey confidence and interest in interacting with them.

3.____

People with good conversation skills tend to notice the kind of things that the average person doesn’t notice, and to bring such details into the conversation. They may notice and point out an interesting ring on the other person’s hand, a certain foreign accent, or a certain voice tone they use when saying a name. Thus, such individuals impress people in a very elegant manner.

Express Your emotions

4._____ Express your feelings about those facts. Keep in mind that it is at the emotional level that people connect best.

Use the best words

The ability to talk smoothly has a lot to do with choosing the precise words to convey your precise feelings or thoughts. 5._____ It will help you develop a way with words and allow you to express yourself more easily.

Conversational skills don’t improve just like that. It takes time, practice and the ability to learn at a rapid rate from your own experiences.

A.Don’t just present the facts, you’re not a newspaper.

B.It’s a very good idea to hold eye contact just a bit more than that.

C.Notice the details.

D.It is important to improve conversational skills.

E.Offer interesting news.

F.They take their time when they reflect on something and when they say it out loud.

G.Develop your vocabulary and practice communicating as accurately as possible.

1.F

2.B

3.C

4.A

5.G

1. 考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。根据本段小标题Talk slow判断在本段中作者建议人们要说话时放慢语速,给自己一个思考的时间,而F选项内容They take their time when they reflect on something and when they say it out loud.也提到了给自己了反应的时间,内容符合语境,填F。

2.考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。本段小标题Hold more eye contact建议人们要有目光的接触,而B选项It’s a very good idea to hold eye contact just a bit more than that.也是给出同样的建议,故答案选B。

In 1896, Einstein went to Zurich to study physics. There he met a girl from Hungary. They studied in the same class and the same interest in physics brought them together and they became good friends. Before long they fell in love. In 1903 when Einstein was 24, he married Merits, who was 4 years older than he.

After their marriage, Einstein devoted himself to the research of the great theory. To give her husband more help, Merits gave up her own work, and became a good wife and assistant. She tried her best to encourage him whenever possible. She was sure that her husband would succeed. They often discussed the theory while walking outside or sitting together in the room. They even did that in their letters when one of them was away from their home.

In1914, Einstein moved to Berlin and settled down there. At that time his theory proved to be correct and he had become famous all over the world. But it was not long before the First Would War broke out. Merits as well as her two sons, who were on holiday in Switzerland, couldn’t come back to Berlin any more. In the US, people prefer waiting for a table to sitting with people they don’t know. This means a hostess may not seat a small group until a small table is available, even if a large one is. If you are sitting at a table with people you don’t know, it is impolite to light up a cigarette without first asking if it will disturb them.

At American restaurants and coffee shops you are usually served tap (水龙头)water before you order. You may find the bread and butter is free, and if you order coffee, you may get a free refill(重续).

Most cities and towns have no rules about opening and closing time for stores or restaurants, though they usually do make rules for bars. Especially in large cities, stores may be open 24 hours a day.

Serving in restaurants is often large; too large for many people. If you can’t finish your meal but would like to enjoy the food later, ask your waitress or waiter for a “doggie bag”. It may have a picture of a dog on it, but everybody knows you’re taking the food for yourself.

Tips are not usually added to the check. They are not included in the price of the meal, either. A tip of about 15% is expected and you should leave it on the table when you leave. In some restaurants, a check is brought on a plate and you put your money there. Then the waiter or waitress brings you your change.

1.Which statement is TRUE?

A. American people like sitting with people they don’t know.

B. Hostess always seats a small group at a large table.

C. American people never sit with people they don’t know.

D. American people would not light a cigarette if the people who sit at the same table mind their smoking.

2.What is served before you order?

A. Cold water. B. Butter.

C. Coffee. D. Bread.

3.What do American people always do when servings are too large for them?

A. They take the food home with a doggie bag for their dogs.

B. They leave the food on the table and go away.

C. They take the food home with a doggie bag and enjoy the food later.

D. They ask the waitress or waiter to keep the food for them.

In the future your automobile will run on water instead of gas! You will be able to buy a supercomputer that fits in your pocket! You might even drive a flying car!

Not all past predictions have been proven wrong. A few of them have been surprisingly accurate. Some great thinkers predicted the arrival of the credit card, the fax machine and even the internet years before they happened. But for each prediction that has come true, some others have missed by a mile. Many of these predictions didn’t consider how people would want to use the technology, or if people really needed it in their lives or not. Let’s look at some predictions from the not-too-distant past.

Robot Helpers

Where’s the robot in my kitchen? Nowhere, of course. And he’s probably not coming anytime soon. Robots do exist today, but mostly in factories and other working environments.Back in the 1950s, however, people said that by now personal robots would be in most people’s homes. So why hasn’t it happened? Maybe because robots are still too expensive and clumsy. And probably the idea of robots cooking our dinners and washing our clothes is just too strange. At home we seem to be doing fine without them.

Telephones of tomorrow

In 1964 an American company introduced the video telephone. They said by the year 2000 most people would have a video phone in their homes. But of course the idea hasn’t caught on yet. Why? The technology worked fine, but it overlooked something obvious: people desire for privacy. Would you want to have a video phone conversation with someone after you just stepped out of the shower? Probably not--it could be uncomfortable! Just because technology doesn’t always mean people will want to use it.

And finally, how about that crazy prediction of the flying car? It’s not so crazy any more! But a flying car remains one of the most wonderful technology ideas to catch our imagination. Keep watching the news or perhaps the sky outside your window to see what the future will bring.

1..The passage mainly deals with______.

A. predictions that can catch our imagination

B. predictions that haven’t come true

C. new technology can benefit our life

D. predictions that have come true

2.According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?

A. Technology doesn’t always mean people will want to use it.

B. Predictions don’t need to consider people’s practical use of the technology.

C. Not all the high-tech things people thought we’d be using by now are widely used

D. High-tech things are not always convenient to people’s life.

3.Robot Helpers haven’t been used in most people’s homes because______.

A. using the kind of robots at home is simply a waste of time and money

B. the kind of robots hasn’t been developed yet

C. people find it difficult to control the kind of robots

D. the kind of robots won’t bring people practical use

4.How does the writer find the flying car?

A. It is too difficult to imagine.

B. It is too crazy an idea to realize.

C. It is likely to appear in the future.

D. It has been the focus of the news.
