M: Well, I wish you luck. Text 7 M: Haven¡¯t you heard about the Browns? W: No, what¡¯s happened? M: They¡¯ve moved. They¡¯d been living in their new house for only two months , when they decided they couldn¡¯t stand it any longer. W: Why ? M: Well , you know the airport was very near. They couldn¡¯t sleep because of the noise from the planes. Mr. Brown had been taking sleeping pills every night, until the doctor told him that he shouldn¡¯t. W: Where are they living now? M: They¡¯ve taken a house in the country. W: I¡¯m sure Mrs. Brown is very happy. She¡¯d been wanting to live in the country for years. Text 8 M: Excuse me for not coming to class tomorrow. W: You missed your class last week, too. You¡¯ve missed a lot of lessons already. I think you should work a little harder. M: Yes, I will, Miss Smith. W: Why can¡¯t you attend my class tomorrow? M: My grandfather is seriously ill and my family is going to visit him in the hospital tomorrow. W: It seems to be an excuse. All right, you are excused. By the way ,which hospital has your grandfather been? M: Which hospital? Er...er...he is in St. George¡¯s Hospital. W: St. George¡¯s Hospital? That¡¯s interesting. It has been closed for repairing the building for the past two months. Tony Banks, you¡¯re trying to cut my class again. You¡¯re coming to my class to morrow and staying after class for extra work. Text 9 W: Hi, John, I haven¡¯t seen you for a few weeks. M: Oh, hi, Mary. I¡¯ve been studying a lot for my final exam. W: Well, the term is almost over now. M: Yes, My brother¡¯s coming for a visit this summer, and we¡¯d like to see some of the country. But traveling is so expensive. W: Have you thought about camping? M: Camping ? I¡¯ve never done that. W: I think you¡¯ll really like it. It¡¯s much cheaper than staying at a hotel. And being closer to nature is a good way to forget about our school for a while. M: What a good idea! We can go by bike until we find a nice place and just camp wherever we like. W: Well, not exactly. You are only allowed to camp in certain places .But there are many national parks, state parks and even villages camp ground around the country. M: Sounds great ! Here¡¯s my bus . I¡¯ll talk to you about this again. Text 10 I¡¯m very glad to be here with you .I¡¯m from Canada. I¡¯m a news reporter . This is my first visit to China. I¡¯ve looked around your city. I¡¯ve visited many factories and schools and talked with the workers, teachers and students. All this has helped me to know China better than before. I¡¯m now writing a book about China. In the book I¡¯m going to tell my Canadian readers what I¡¯ve seen and heard of in your country. I think my book will help the Canadians to understand China and Chinese people so as to improve the friendship between the two countries.
