Fifteen years spent in the field of education has provided me with many treasured moments. One of the most unforgettable
1
when I was teaching second
2
In May I decided to plan something special for the children; a Mother’s Day tea. We had put our heads together to
3
ideas of how to
4
our mothers. We practiced singing songs, memorized poems and wrote cards. We decided to hold our tea the Friday before Mother’s Day. I was surprised and
5
to learn that every mother was planning to attend. I
6
invited my own mother.
Finally, the big day arrived. Each child
7
up at our classroom door, expecting the arrival of his or her mom.
8
it got closer to starting time, I looked around and my eyes quickly found Jimmy. His mother hadn’t shown up and he was looking
9
.
I took my mother by the hand and walked over to Jimmy. “Jimmy,” I said, “I have a bit of problem here and I was
10
if you could keep my mother
11
while I’m busy.”
My mom and Jimmy sat at a table. Jimmy
12
my mom her treats, presented her with the gift I had made, just as we had
13
the day before. Whenever I looked over, my mother and Jimmy were in deep
14
.
Now 10 years later, I work with students of all ages, educating them about the environment. Last year, I took a senior class on a field trip, and there was Jimmy, I had the students complete an outline of the day’s
15
and an evaluation of our trip. Then I collected the students’ booklets and checked them to see if
16
was completed. When I came
17
Jimmy’s page, he had written “Remember our Mother’s Day tea we had in second grade, Mrs, Marra? I do! Thanks for all you did for me, and thank your mother, too.”
I told him I really enjoyed what he had written. He looked rather embarrassed and
18
his own thanks and walked away. Suddenly he ran bark and gave me a big hug. “Thanks again. No one even knew my mother didn’t
19
it.”
I ended my workday with a hug from a teenage boy who had
20
stopped hugging teachers years ago.

I finished my last work of the week and could hardly wait to get home, take off my nursing shoes, and relax.

I was beyond neighborhoods, streets and

15
. Then I raised my head and

a shadow down the road in front of me. I turned my headlights on. A car! I drove a little
17
, got out of my car and knocked on the window of that car. An elderly man
18
rolled his window down.
I said that I didn’t know how to get back into town. In silence, he started driving. I ran back to my car and drove
19
him. Finally I recognized a(n)

street. As I turned to head home, the car disappeared. Then I pulled into my driveway (车道) when the warning light for my gas tank (汽油箱) turned on.
Though so many years have passed, I still thank the old man from my deepest heart.

Finding something to do during the school holidays isn't always easy, but one mum has set up a new website to help families find activities and events in Norfolk.
Fiona Anthony of Bawburgh, near Norwich, was persuaded by her friends to set up the website, Info4Families, when they noticed she always knew what events were happening in the county(县).
"I am always looking for things to keep my children
occupied
and Norfolk has such a lot going on," she said.
Detail(细节)from Info4Families
"But I found it quite difficult to get information about events and activities for children and families, as there was no central information point and it would often involve collecting leaflets(传单) and checking notice boards at different places.
"So I decided to set up a website which would allow people to find things to do, without leaving home," she added.
Fiona was also concerned that some events she had booked had to be cancelled(取消) because not enough people wanted to go.
"It is a real shame that some parents can’t find the events and some event organisers don’t get the numbers they need. I want to help bring the two together," said Fiona.
The website gives details on regular, one-off and free events, and includes activities which children can do on their own or with the family.
Parents can look for activities by category(种类)and by age so that they can find events suitable for their children’s interests and needs. The site also links to local places of interest, such as libraries, museums and cinemas.

to tell people how to spend their holidays at home

Four Insurance Policies You Can' t Do Without
A single gap in insurance coverage could wipe out the money that yon' ve earned for many years through your hard work. That' s why it' s important to give yourself a yearly insurance checkup, whether you buy your policies through an agent or from one of the growing number of insurance companies.
Health. Before selecting a policy from your employer or deciding among Medicare options, review your current health, predictable medical needs, and family status. This review should help you avoid a plan that fails to cover a necessary treatment or paying for services that you know you'll never use.
Disability. Your chances of becoming disabled before you retire are far greater than your chances of dying. So every working person needs some kind of disability coverage. If you are working for an employer who offers less than that, you can buy an individual policy to promote your coverage.
Homeowners or renters. Make sure you have replacement-cost coverage that would pay the current costs of rebuilding your home and replacing your personal possessions. A policy that would only pay for the decrease in value of these items isn' t good enough, because you could end up recovering just a small part of their costs. Don' t forget flood and/or earthquake insurance if you live in a locate that has a possible tendency to these types of disasters.
Life. Empty nesters and retirees may. no longer need life insurance at all. But if you have dependents who would suffer financially if you died, it' s still a must.
1.
To have your insurance checkup every year is mainly because _______.
A.
the gap in insurance coverage could cost you a large sum
B.
the gap in insurance coverage could bring you benefits
C.
some insurance agencies cover few of your policies
D.
too many insurance companies prefer to sell coverage
2.
_______ can be ignored while deciding among Medicare choices.
A.
Your necessary treatment.
B.
Your personal health at present.
C.
Your social status.
D.
Your predictable medical needs.
3.
Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A.
Workers needn' t buy personal disability coverage if their bosses offer that
B.
Insurance companies can secure the full value of private possessions
C.
Earthquake insurance can cover replacement-cost caused by the disaster
D.
Divorced or retired people may need life insurance for their dependents
4.
We can infer that demand for insurance_______.
A.
varies due to individual needs of coverage
B.
stays the same whether you are working or not
C.
increases when we move to a new place
D.
decreases if we have a large family to support
