With a warm smile, Yao Ming has become a household name in China and in the USA. Yao Ming was born in Shanghai on the 12th of September, 1980. The giant is now 2.26 meters tall and 134 kg in weight. He joined Shanghai basketball team in 1997 and became a member of China National Team in 1998. Two years later he was selected as a member of Asian All-Star basketball team. In 2002, Shanghai won the championships of CBA and he was among the top players in the team. In the same year he went to the USA and became Number One Overall in the NBA draft, which helped him join Houston Rockets. After many matches as well as struggles he now feels a little tired, but he’s starting to feel much more comfortable with the game and his role in the team. He says he is still learning a lot about playing in the NBA. He has a plan to help the China National Team earn a spot in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.
