A major source of teen stress is school exams, and test anxiety is not uncommon. When you recognize your teen is under stress, how can parents help your teen stay calm before an exam?

Be involved. Parents need to be involved in their teen’s work. 【1】 What they look for is your presence to talk, to cry, or simply to sit with them quietly. Communicate openly with your teen. Encourage your teen to express her worries and fears, but don’t let them focus on those fears.

Help them get organized. 2 Together , you and your teen can work out a time—table in which she can study for what she knows will be on the test.

Provide a calm setting. Help your teen set up a quiet place to study and protect his privacy. Give them a nutritious diet. It is important for your teen to eat a healthy, balanced diet during exam times to focus and do her best. 3 If this happens, encourage your teen to eat light meals or sandwiches. A healthy diet, rather than junk food, is best for reducing stress.

4 Persuade your teenager to get some sleep and /or do something active when she needs a real break from studying. Making time for relaxation, fun, and exercise are all important in reducing stress. Help your teen balance her time so that she will feel comfortable taking time out from studying to spend time with friends or rest.

Homework

Do maths problems 15 through 25. State the different forms of the verbs on page 50 of your French workbook. Read pages 12 through 20 of the Shakespeare play, and don’t forget to fill in the missing chemical symbols on the worksheet.

Sound like a list of your homework for the next few nights — or maybe even just for tonight? 1It’s your teachers’ way of evaluating how much you understand what’s going on in class. And it helps strengthen important concepts. Here are some tips on how to do your homework.

2It’s inviting to start with the easy things to get them out of the way. However, you’ll have the most energy and focus when you begin, so it’s best to use this mental power on the subjects that are most challenging. Later, when you’re more tired, you can focus on the simpler things. If you get stuck on a problem, try to figure it out as well as you can — but don’t spend too much time on it because this can mess up your homework schedule for the rest of the night. 3But don’t pick someone whom you’ll be up all night chatting with, or you’ll never get it done!

Most people’s attention spans aren’t very long, so take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without relaxing will make you less productive than if you stop every so often. Taking a 15-minute break every hour is a good idea for most people.4

Once your homework is done, you can check over it if you have extra time. Be sure to put it safely away in your backpack—there’s nothing worse than having a completed assignment that you can’t find the next morning or that gets ruined by a careless brother or sister. 5Now you’re free to hang out.A. Luckily, you can do a few things to do less homework.

B. Homework is a major part of going to school.C. No one is expected to stay long, and people have very different learning styles.

D. If you need to, ask an adult for help or call or email a classmate for advice.

E. But if you’re really concentrating, wait until it's a good time to stop.F. And no teacher still believes that “chewed by the dog” line—even when it's true!

G. When you start your homework, deal with the hardest tasks first.

【题目】阅读下面短文,然后按要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Big or small, rejection affects us all. Harry Potter was rejected. So was The Twilight Saga. If authors J. K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer hadn’t kept trying with publisher after publisher, we’d all have missed out on some great adventures.

Rejection doesn’t have to be about the big thing like not getting into your top college, not making the team, or not getting asked to the prom (舞会). Everyday situations can lead to the feeling of rejection, too, like if your joke doesn’t get a laugh, if no one remembers to save you a seat at the lunch table, or if the person you really like talks to everyone but you.

Feeling rejected is the opposite of feeling accepted. But being rejected (and we will all be at times) doesn’t mean someone isn’t liked, valued, or important. It just means that one time, in one situation, with one person, things didn’t work out.

Rejection hurts. But it’s impossible to avoid it altogether. In fact, you don’t want to — people who become too afraid of rejection might hold back from going after something they want. Sure, they avoid rejection, but they’re also 100% guaranteed to miss out on what they want but won’t try for.

【写作内容】

1. 以约30个词概括上文的主要内容。

2. 以约120个词就“How to deal with rejection”这一话题发表你的看法,内容包括:

(1)讲述一次你被拒绝的经历;(2)你当时的感受;(3)你认为应该如何正确面对拒绝。

【写作要求】

作文中可以使用亲身经历或虚构的故事,也可以参照阅读材料的内容,但不得直接引用原文中的句子。

【评分标准】

概括准确,语言规范,内容合适,语篇连贯。
