An old man whose eyesight was failing comes to stay in a hotel, a bottle of whisky in his hand. On the wall was a fly he took for a nail. The moment he tried to hang the bottle on it, they fell and broke. When the landlady discovered what had been happened, she decided to do him favor. The next morning when he was out, the hotel worker hammered a nail exact where the “fly” had been. Before the old man came back, the smell of the whisky reminded him the accident. Looking at the spot what he thought the “fly” was again, he was so angry that he slapped it with all his strengths. On hearing the loud cry, the landlady rushed in. To her surprise, the poor old man was sitting on the floor with his teeth clenched (咬紧) and the palm of his hand bleed.

When I am a child, I always wished to become an adult so that I could do all what I liked. I wanted to have more space where I was able to follow my own heart without follow my parents’ instructions. As time going by, I have grown up gradually, but I find things are quite different from what I expect. I do have the free to do more things alone. Moreover, I have to take on much responsibilities. I have to take the charge of my life and face challenges bravely. Now I am determined to work hardly and go to college so that I can have a bright future.

In the past my hometown was used to be a beautiful place. Thick trees and green grass could be seen in everywhere. In order to build house and grow more crops, people cut down more and more trees. With time went on, the whole forest was almost destroyed. Gradually the green hills have changed into wasteland. As a result, sandstorms struck us now and then, of which we suffer a lot. However, I do hope all the people should realize the terribly result of not caring about our environment. What's more, they should take good care of the forests and plant trees instead cutting them down to improve our living conditions.

Ladies and gentlemen,
It is special pleasure to welcome our new staff member, Mr Tony White, who has come here to America.
Mr White has recently graduated from the University of Chicago where he has majored in English Literature and minored in Teaching English as the Second Language. He will working with us here for at least two years.
One of the goals of our school are to promote understanding and cooperation between the young people of our two countries. By have Mr White, who is willing to sacrifice the comfort of his friends and family to come to a strange country, we feel we are very lucky and our goals will be easily realized.

I have a little brother who is 11 years this year. We get on well with each other and have had a good times together. Several days ago, I bought a book to him. The book is written by those which have won Nobel Prize and it aim to help children learn about the unknown world. Before I bought the book, I have read it. I felt that it is a good book for him, because he is interesting in new things and has so much questions. I hope that through reading book, my brother can learn more about the world and know how to do a good person.

Friends are very importance to teenagers. They gave fun and excitement to each other. They also give advices to one another. They can talk about lots of problems with their friends. As for parents, they are sure important. But some teenagers often says their parents don’t understand them. In large families, brothers and sisters often argue each other for good things, such as delicious food or super toys. Nowadays many young students are like cigarettes. One reason is because they feel it’s a kind of fashion. By smoke, they can look cool. Some teenagers think smoking is good to social contact, so that they can develop social skill. Some others want reduce stress and become relaxing, so they join smokers. Senior Three student will face the question after they pass by the college entrance examination. “Should I choose a good major and a good university ?” Some students prefer to consider majors first so that they can learn what they are interested . It will also make it possibly for them to take their favorite jobs in the future. However, those who think differently believes that the environment is important to one’s development. They also believe that students graduate from leading universities are often more likely to find good jobs. In my opinion , a best choice is to choose a good major at a good university. But if we couldn’t obtain both, the first thing to consider is a good major, because no matter where we study, they can still achieve a lot in a certain field if we try our best.

It was our English teacher's birthday yesterday. Though English is a hard subject, but I like my English teacher lot, and so do my  classmates. She is nice to us and always tells us stories of the days when she was in her twenty.  Sometimes she even stayed in school to help students make up their lessons. She always encourages us and tells us do our best. We are gratefully to her, so that day we bought him a cake and a gift. We even make a big card for her, on it we wrote all our names. Seeing these, she was moving and had a big smile in her face.
