Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF and is held between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday of each March, asking people to turn off their non-essential lights for an hour. First held in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour aims to remind people of the influence of global warming and to raise awareness about environmental protection. This year more than 100 million people from 125 countries took part in the event on March 27. Although the event has grew in popularity, some people still doubt whether it really contributes to saving energy and decreasing carbon emission, proposing that we should do more than just turning off our lights. As a matter of fact, turning off our lights for just an hour is not enough to save our planet, but it is a meaningful step in the right direction.
