1975年2月4日，我国地震科学机构发出辽宁海城即将发生强烈地震的预报，当人们有组织地撤到户外以后，当天下午7时36分，海城果然发生了7.3级强震。由于及时采取了预防措施，有效地减少了人民生命财产的损失，在6市10县的震区范围内，死亡人数仅有1 300人。这是世界上首次成功地作出7级以上强震的临震预报，被举世公认为“科学的奇迹”。

A predicted Earthquake On Feb．24th, 1975, Chinese Earthquake Science Research predicted that there would be an earthquake in Haicheng, Liaoning．After the local people moved out of their houses, at 7∶36, an strong earthquake of 7.3 scales did take place in Haicheng．As a result of the proper prediction, the loss of the lives and possessions were reduced．There were no more than 1.300 deaths．This was the first successful prediction in the world．It was well known as the wonder of science．
