But hundreds of years ago,it took people a long time to go around the world. Magellan's (麦哲伦) men were the first to make such a trip. They went by ship and it took them three years. On September 20,1519,he left Spain with five ships and 234 men. They got to the Philippines (菲律宾) on March 16 ,1521. He was killed in the Philippines on April 27 in the conflict (冲突) against the local people. More than sixteen months later,on September 8,1522,only one of the five ships with just 18 men returned to Spain.
