It's so beautiful outside that spending the day in the office would be very boring. So why not take the vacations off? A new survey (调查)found that 31% of US workers don't always take all of their vacation days. Americans have 12 vacation days on average (平均)each year, but they give back an average of 3 vacation days each year.

So why don't they use up their vacation days? Some say that they prefer to get money back for their unused day;some busy workers say that they just can't leave their work. Americans have fewer vacation days than workers in any other country surveyed.

The French think that their vacations are of great importance. French workers get an average of 39 vacation days, and 40% plan to take at least one three-to-four-week vacation. Workers in Sweden receive an average of 25 vacation days a year, but they can't find time to use them all. More workers there return vacation days than any other country surveyed.

British workers have the longest working week in Europe (欧沙l、l). with 23 vacation days-—the shortest vacation. So they feel overworked. 75% say that their weekends or vacations are too short and 40% would give up a day's pay for one more vacation day.

One day,Mrs. Shelley took her son Roy to a department store to buy a pair of shoes for herself and a sweater for him.

At the entrance to the department store,a young lady showed her the way to the clothes department. They could buy the sweater on the second floor and the shoes on the fourth floor.

Roy wanted a dark green sweater, but Mrs. Shelley did not think the colour suited (合适)him. She said light green was better. Dear Laura,

Thanks for your email. Yes,I am having a great time on my exchange program in France. It's even(16)    than I thought. I was a bit nervous before I arrived here, but there was no reason to be. My host(17)       are really nice. They go out of their way to make me (18)       at home. And you wouldn't believe how (19)      my French has improved! Although I still make lots of mistakes,it doesn't worry me like it(20)       My biggest challenge (挑战)is learning how to behave (表现)at(21)      table. As you can imagine (想像), things are really different from the way they are at home. For example, you shouldn't eat(22)      with your hands except bread, not even fruit.(23) thing is that it is very rude to say you are full. If you don't want any more food, you should just say "It was delicious." I have to say that I find(24)      difficult to remember everything, but I am getting used to things. Hope you are (25)      a good school year. Please write to me soon.

                                                      Yours,Wang Kun
