Alice Munro was born in Wingham, Ontario. Her father, Robert Eric Laidlaw, was a fox and mink (貂) farmer, and her mother, Anne Clarke Laidlaw, was a school teacher. Munro began writing as a teenager. Her first story, The Dimensions of a Shadow, came out in 1950 while she was studying at the University of Western Ontario. During this period she worked as a waitress, a tobacco picker, and a library clerk (职员).

Munros first collection of stories, Dance of the Happy Shades (1968), won the Governor Generals Award, Canadas highest literary (文学的) prize. That success was followed by Lives of Girls and Women (1971), a collection of interlinked (相互关联的) stories sometimes incorrectly described as a novel. In 1978, Munros collection of interlinked stories Who Do You Think You Are? was published. This book earned Munro a second Governor Generals Literary Award. From 1979 to 1982, she toured Australia, China and Scandinavia. In 1980, Munro held the position of writer in residence (住校) at both the University of British Columbia and the University of Queensland. Through the 1980s and 1990s, she published a short-story collection about once every four years.

On 10 October, 2013, Munro was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. She is known as a master of the contemporary (当代的) short story. She is the first Canadian and the 13th woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.

To many students, joining social media (社交媒体) circles is now more important than making new friends in real life.

And its easy. If you have a cell phone, you can download apps (应用程序) such as Sina Weibo, WeChat (微信) and QQ.

I love to check my friends updates (更新). I also enjoy news and humor shared on social media, Said Ou Wei, 14, from Hongling Middle School in Shenzhen. I think they need to learn to balance their real and online lives, said Deng,

What makes parents and teachers worried is safety. Many students are happy to tell their interests and personal information to their social media friends. Such information could bring them danger, said Han Songjun, a teacher at Hongling Middle School.

For example, WeChats shake-shake function allows users to connect to other users close by. But the police warn about the danger of socializing in this way.

Camping in your backyard is full of fun. It makes us relaxed. It offers chances to enjoy the night sky and we neednt be as quiet as usual. It makes us close to the outside world. It also lets us have many friends to stay with us! Follow these instructions and youll have a night youll never forget!

Put up your tent.

How many family members and friends will join? It decides how many tents you need. Tell your friends to bring their tents if needed. Remember to learn about how to put up a tent on the Internet.

Prepare your bedding.

Put something soft to lie on on the floor. An air mattress (床垫) may work well. Fill the tent with soft toys and blankets. Have sleeping bags and cotton blankets. They are important if it gets too cool in the night.

Prepare a seating area.

A picnic table is the best. Or you can set up a few chairs and a small table to put drinks and food on. You can also lay out (铺开) a blanket in the sun. Be sure the grass isnt wet!
