Sometimes I really wonder whether there is love between my parents. Every day they are very busy making money. They don’t act in the romantic ways that I read about in books or I see on TV. In their opinion, “I love you” is too much to say.
One day, my mother was sewing a quilt (缝被子). I quietly sat down beside her and   小题1:  her.
“Mom, I have a question for you,” I said, breaking the   小题2:.
“What?” she asked, still doing her work.
“Is there love between you and Dad?” I asked her in a very   小题3:  voice.
She stopped her work and raised her head with surprise in her eyes. But then she bowed her head and continued to sew the quilt. I was very   小题4:  then because I thought I had hurt her.
It seemed like a very long time before my mother started to speak again. “Susan,” she said thoughtfully, “look at this thread (线). Sometimes it   小题5: , but most of it disappears (消失) in the quilt. The thread makes the quilt strong and durable. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can   小题6:  be seen anywhere or anytime, but it’s really there. Love is inside (在里面).”
I listened carefully but I didn’t understand   小题7:  the next spring. My father had a stroke (中风) and   小题8:  walk by himself anymore. After that, my mother   小题9:  my father walk outside every  day. Along the country road, there were many beautiful flowers and trees. The sun gently glistened through leaves. They two, hand in hand, walked slowly. To me, that was   小题10: picture in the world — that’s a picture of love.
They still don’t say “I love you” to each other. But I know they have deep love for each other. I used to think love meant flowers and sweet kisses. But actually, love is just a thread in the quilt.
Chris is not a traditional explorer(探险者)- he usually works in an office for a large organization. Yet his job can sometimes be just as exciting and dangerous as being an explorer.
Chris works for MSF, an organization also known as Doctors Without Borders (无国界医生). MSF sends trained doctors all over the world to help people after a war or a disaster. Chris is a doctor from France who has travelled to many places to organize programmes that help people.
At the moment, there are over 27,000 trained medical staff taking part in MSF projects and tasks. The organization received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. All kinds of doctors can volunteer for MSF. They need to be prepared to go almost anywhere in the world and, of course, they should expect difficult conditions. Doctors with experience in tropical(热带的)diseases are especially useful because most of MSF’s work is in Africa. When MSF accepts a doctor for a task, he has to go for at least six months. When doctors have completed a few tasks, they might be sent on an emergency task following a disaster, such as an earthquake.
But why would a doctor leave a comfortable life and a good salary to join MSF? According to Chris, the experience you gain is a great help in your career. Besides, just like the explorers of the past, you need to keep an open mind and learn to mix well with the people you meet. Most importantly, at the end of each task, you have made a real difference to people’s lives.

Car Free Day encourages drivers to give up their cars for a day to protect the environment . People from around the world get together in the streets to remind the world that we don’t have to accept the society full of cars . It was first started by 34 cities in France and September 22 is Car Free Day . The  first Car Free Day in China was in Chengdu in 2001. The slogan for the day is “If we drive for one less day , we can have one more nice day .”
Organized activities are held in many cities on Car Free Day . In Brussels, Car Free Day shall be valid (有效的)for everybody except persons with a special permit (许可证), but they have to slow down to the speed of 30 kilometers per hour . The public transportation is free on that day. In London, they have special “green areas”.Walking, biking, and public transportation are encouraged. The streets are open only to walkers ,bicycles and buses from 7:00a.m. to 7:00 p.m. In Beijing , it asks drivers to leave their cars at home for one day each month and walk or ride a bike to work . More and more people are joining in the activity. In the first quarter of this year ,Beijing only had 52 blue sky days , and you may see haze(雾霾) almost every day ! We must do more for Car Free Day as a Beijing driver said , “ We may not change the weather, but we can choose not to drive.”
But we do not want just one day and then a return to “ normal ” life . We should go on with Car Free Day.

Learn to relax. Overwork is the main reason why so many students feel tired and stressed. Cut down some of the jobs you need to do each day so that you can only focus on the most important things. Leave time for activities that are relaxing and fun. This might mean reading a good book, listening to the music, going for a walk or taking a relaxing bath.
Get a good night’s sleep. Getting enough sleep will help you keep your body and mind in the best form. If you stay up late and need to get up early for school the next day, you may not be able to concentrate on the things you need to do.
Exercise regularly and eat well. Don’t rush through your meals. Eat less junk food or fast food. Eat healthy food instead.
Get to know pleasant people. Some people are optimistic, while others not. Choose optimistic people as your friends and spend more time with them and you’ll be as happy as them.
Learn to be calm when you face any problem. Find out the best option from those that are in your mind. Knowing that you are able to solve problems is a good way to build up your self-confidence.
Have a happy attitude. Your attitude decides the way you see things. Is your cup half full or half empty? Learn to think more positively(积极地) about the difficulties you face.

Cellphones help us easily find people anywhere at any time. However, using cellphones too often may cause cancer. (1) It’s reported that people who used a cellphone for 10 years or more were more likely to get brain cancer.
The suggestions below may help you reduce the risk(风险) of cancer:
◆When using your cellphone, try to keep it away from your body as much as possible. Don’t put it under your pillow(枕头) or on a bedside table when you sleep.
◆When you’re on the cellphone, use the speaker. In this way, you have just 1/100th of the contact with radiation you have when you hold (2) it to your ear. An earphone is also a good idea.
◆Try to keep your conversations short. If you need to talk longer, use an ordinary phone instead.
◆Change ears when you’re using your cellphone. Before putting it to your ear, wait until the person you are calling picks up the phone.
◆Your phone gives out radiation when you talk or text, but not when you’re listening or getting messages. (4) 多听和少说能降低癌症风险。
◆Do not use your cellphone when the signal is weak or when moving at a high speed, for example in a car or train. At high speeds your phone is trying to pick up signals, and this increases the radiation it gives out.
