Monday morning is an important time at our school. All of the students go to the playground. We listen to the music, and we      the national flag(国旗) go up.
Usually, one student gives a talk on Monday mornings. One Monday last year, a boy gave the talk. He was      and excited! When I saw him, I wanted to have a try, too. Can I really do it?
Last week, our teacher said our class should give the talk. My teacher      me, "I know you want to have a try. Next Monday, you can give the talk. Go and write something down.        for it, I'm sure you'll do well." "Thank you ," I answered. It was such a great      for me !
When I got home , I was excited. I wrote two pages for the talk. I read them again and again. When I read, I asked my parents     me. I wanted to do my best to make it perfect .
Monday morning came. I began to feel       . When did I last give a talk to     many people?
Never! This was my first time. Could I really       it? Maybe I couldn't finish the talk.
When I got to school, we all went out to playground. I      in front of everyone. I opened my mouth, but I couldn't say anything. "Take it easy," I said to      . ”Don’t be nervous. You can do it."
Just then, I looked down at everyone. I saw about 1,000 eyes. They were all looking at me !
I couldn't      stand up. I looked at their eyes more carefully. Their eyes were saying , "You can do it! Don't be afraid, just talk !" I       a big breath. Then I began to talk.It wasn't hard. It was easy. I don't know       I finished my talk. But I did it. I felt so good that day. I showed myself      everyone what I can do.

This summer I will leave the junior high school where I have been for three years. I am generally considered to be a careful and polite boy now. However, five years ago, I was a little bit bossy(专横的). I often fought with other boys and sometimes I even fought with my elder sister. When I saw Superman on TV for the first time, I dreamed of being a superman one day.
One P.E. class, I called up all of my friends to get together in our classroom. “Can anybody jump out of the window?” I asked them. After hearing this, all my friends kept silent. “I know you are all chickens,” I said. “Can you?” one of my friends asked me. “Sure!” I answered. “If I do it, I will get all the toys that you have. If I fail, you will get all of my toys, OK?” They said, “OK!”
Then I went up to the window of the second floor. I took a deep breath and then jumped down, stretching out my arms just like Superman. Then I hit the ground.
When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying in the hospital. I was taken to the hospital because my arms were badly hurt. Later, I heard that my P.E. teacher nearly lost his job for this, but I never received the serious punishment I feared.

International travelers, whether traveling for business or pleasure, will find themselves solo from time to time. Here are a few ways to meet new people and perhaps even get new travel chances.
Make yourself friendly
Be relaxed and polite. Remember to put yourself in social activities. Restaurants, shops and parks are all great places to meet people. If you want to make local friends in a country, stay near the place the locals often visit.
Show your photo album(影集)
Keep a small photo album in your bag when you travel. Photos of family, friends and pets will help your new friends learn more about you and give you things to talk about. They will share their own stories with you, and it will help you learn more about your new friends.
Share something special
Can you help your new friends improve their Chinese? Can you cook a traditional Chinese meal? By sharing your skills, you can have a close friendship with your new friends that they won’t soon forget.
Give some gifts
Many foreigners love Chinese goods but have to pay a lot when buying them in their homeland, so you’d better prepare some gifts such as silks, tea and works of art. They are always popular.
Exchange flats
If you and your new friends get along well, you can give them your information and plan to exchange flats for your next trip. Then you can visit their countries and stay in their houses while they stay in yours. In this way you will improve your friendship and live like a local abroad, but pay less for traveling.

I stood there listening to my father shout at top of his voice. The        on his face said that one of us had done something wrong.
     one of you did this?”
We all        the step. There was a child’s handwriting in chalk there. I was very         . I hoped no one could see it. Would he guess it was me? I was so afraid. When he asked me, I lied, “Not me, Dad.”
The others denied (否认) it as well. Of course, we all knew that one of us must have done it. But as the youngest and smallest of the three, I just couldn’t find the         to tell the truth.
To find out who had written on the step, Father gave us each a piece of paper and a pencil. “I want each of you to write exactly what you see on the step.”
I tried my best to write the words       . I didn’t want Dad to be able to tell it was me.
He gathered up our pieces of paper and looked at them. “    none of you will admit(承认) to have done it, then I will punish you all.” I stood there and said        . The last thing I wanted was for Dad to punish me!
“I did it.” My sister stepped forward and said she had done something she hadn’t. She was grounded for a month.
We didn’t       that day for many years. Not until we were all older and I knew it was safe to finally tell my dad it was really me. I always felt sorry because of it. That was the        time I let anyone take the blame for me.

Sometimes it is impossible to deliver(投递)all the mail that arrives at the post office. Perhaps there is an        mailing address and there is no return address. The post office cannot just        the mail, so it becomes “dead mail”. Dead mail is      to one of the U.S. Post Service’s in Atlanta, New York, and San Francisco. Seventy-five million pieces of mail can be put in these offices in one year.
There the workers of the dead mail offices have        ways to deal with all of these pieces of dead mail. First of all, they look for        that can help them deliver the mail; they open packages, expecting that something        will show where the package came from or is going to. Dead mail will also be listed on a       so that people can call in and check to see if a missing thing is there on the screen. However, all of this mail cannot simply be       forever; there is just too much of it. When a lot of dead mail comes together, the dead mail offices hold public auctions (拍卖). Every three months, some people who are        are invited to the offices with objects found in dead mail packages and they are sold to the       bidder (出价者).
