A traveler came out of the airport. There were a lot of taxis. He asked every taxi driver about his name. Then he took the third one. It cost 5 dollars from the airport to the hotel. “How much does it cost for the whole day?” The man asked. “100 dollars,” said the taxi driver. This was very dear (昂贵的), but the man said it was OK.
The taxi driver took the man everywhere. He showed him all the parks and museums in the city. In the evening they went back to the hotel. The traveler gave the taxi driver 100 dollars and said, “What about tomorrow?” The taxi driver looked at the man and said, “Tomorrow is another 100 dollars.” And the man said, “That’s OK! See you tomorrow.” The taxi driver was very pleased.
The next day the taxi driver took the traveler everywhere again. They visited all the parks and museums again. And in the evening they went back to the hotel. The man gave the taxi driver 100 dollars again and said, “I’m going home tomorrow.” The driver was sorry because he liked the traveler and 100 dollars a day was a lot of money. “So you are going home. Where do you come from?” He asked. “I come from New York.” “New York,” the taxi driver said, “I have a sister in New York. Her name is Susan. Do you know her?” “Of course I know her. An 8-year-old child heard her parents talking about her little brother Andrew. All she knew was that he was very sick and they had no money. Only a very expensive operation could save him.
One morning, the girl heard her father say to her mother: “Only a miracle can save Andrew now.” The girl went to her bedroom, collected all of her money and counted it carefully. She hurried to a drugstore.
“How can I help you?” asked the salesman.
“I want to buy a miracle,” the girl answered. “My brother has something bad growing inside his head. My daddy says only a miracle can save him. So how much does a miracle cost?”
“We don’t sell miracles here, my dear. I’m so sorry,” the salesman said, sadly.
“What kind of a miracle does your brother need?” asked a well-dressed man standing nearby.
“I don’t know,” she answered. “He’s really sick and needs an operation in his head. So I brought all my money.”
“How much do you have?” asked the man.
“$1.11,” she answered, “ but I can try and get some more.” She said again and again.
“Well, what luck,” said the man. “$1.11 is the price of a miracle. Let’s go to see your brother.”

A group of swans flew down to a beach where a crow was jumping around. The crow watched them with disdain.
“You have no flying skills at all!” he said to the swans. “All you can do is to move your wings. Can you turn over in the air? No, that’s beyond you. Let’s have a flying competition. I’ll show you what real flying is!”
One of the swans, a strong young male, took up the challenge. The crow flew up and began to show his skills. He flew in circles, performed other flying tricks, and then came down and looked proudly at the swan.
Now it was the swan’s turn. He flew up, and began flying over the sea. The crow flew after him, making all kinds of comments about his flying. They flew on and on till they couldn’t see the land and there was nothing but water on all sides. The crow was making fewer and fewer comments. He was now so exhausted that he found it hard to stay in the air, and had to struggle to keep himself from falling into the water.
The swan pretended not to notice, and said, “Why do you keep touching the water, brother? Is that another trick? “
“No,” said the crow. He knew he had lost the competition. “I’m in trouble because of my pride! If you don’t help me, I’ll lose my life. . . ”
The swan took pity on him, and took him on his shoulders and flew back to the beach.
