Life is like the four seasons. Now I am very old, but when I was young, it was the spring of my life. I was born, I played a lot, and then I started school. I learned many new things.

Like a flower, I grew bigger every day. There were happy days and sorrowful days: some days the sun shone, and some days it didn't.

In my twenties, I had a good job. I was strong and happy. Then I married and had a child. In those days, I didn't have much time to think. Every day I was busy and worked very hard. And so, I started to get some white hairs. The summer of my life passed quickly.

Then the days got shorter. Leaves fell from the trees. My child was a university student, and then an engineer. My home was much quieter. I started walking more slowly. One day I stopped working. I had more time. I understood this was my autumn, a beautiful time when the trees change colour and give us delicious fruits.

But the days kept getting shorter and colder. Winter has come. I am older and weaker. I know I do not have many days left, but 1 will enjoy them to the end.

Will it matter if you don't take your breakfast? A short time ago, a test(试验)was given in the United States. People of different ages, from 12 to 83, were asked to have a test. During the test, these people were given all kinds for breakfast, and sometimes they got no breakfast at all. Scientists(科学家)wanted to see how well their bodies worked when they had eaten different kinds of breakfasts.

The results show that if a person eats a right breakfast, he or she will work better than if he or she has no breakfast. If a student has fruit, eggs, bread and milk before going to school, he will learn more quickly and listen more carefully in class.

The result is opposite to what some people think. Having no breakfast will not help you lose weight(减轻体重). This is because people become so hungry at noon that they eat too much for lunch. They will gain weight(增加体重)instead of losing it. You will lose more weight if you reduce your other meals.

Alexander Bell(亚历山大·贝尔)was an American scientist. He invented the first telephone in 1876.

Bell was born in Scotland(苏格兰). Later he found a job in the United States. He taught the deaf children in a new school. Bell was a very kind man. He liked the deaf children very much. But when he saw the children couldn't hear anything, he felt very sad. He made up his mind to help the children.

Bell tried to find a way to send a voice wire(电线). He thought that spoken words were made up of different vibration(振动). He thought that if a wire could carry vibrations, it must carry a man's voice. After Bell had the idea, he kept working day after day. He and his assistant worked for about four years. They tried their best to make their wishes come true.

One day in 1874, Bell was in one room. But suddenly he heard a sound come from another room. He ran into his assistant's room and shouted. He was very happy because he succeeded at last. Then Bell made his first telephone. But this telephone carried voices only a little way.

Later the great Einstein made a better one. Of course, the telephone we use now is much better than Einstein's.
