　　Football is a famous sport for almost every big school in America．

　　American football is not like soccer．Players sometimes kick(踢)the ball, but they also throw the ball and run with it．They try to take it to the other end of the field．They have four chances(机会)to move the ball ten yards(码)．They can carry it or throw it．If they move it to the end of the field, they receive six points(分)．

　　It is difficult to move the ball．Eleven men on the team try to stop the man who has the ball．If the man does not move the ball ten yards, this team kicks the ball to the other team．

　　Thousands of people come to watch．They all shout, dance and jump for their favourite team．Each team plays ten or eleven games each season．The season begins in September and ends in November．The best teams play again on January 1, the first day of a new year．Many people go to see these games and many others watch them on television．

　　On Sundays they get up early．They don't have a big breakfast, only coffee, bread and butter．Then they go to church(教学)．After church they all go to the park in the centre(中心)of the city．

　　First, all the English words are arranged in the alphabetical order(按字母顺序排列)．In the dictionary you can first see the words beginning with the letter A, then B, C, D, E, …That means, if there are two words“desert”and“pull”,“desert”will be certainly before“pull”．Then if there are two words both beginning with the same letter, you may look at the second letter．Then the third, the fourth, …For example,“pardon”is before“plough”,“judge”before“just”etc…Do you understand how to look up a word in a dictionary?

　　The dictionary will be your good friend．I hope you'll use it as often as possible in your English learning．
