　　Baseball(棒球) is one of the favourite sports in the USA. Children play baseball in sports fields or in parks. In summer there is often informal(非正式的) baseball game. Boys and girls, young and old take turns at bat (球棒). Each team has 9 players.

　　The baseball season goes from Apr. il to September. During this time, baseball matches are shown on TV and members of the important baseball teams become American's heroes(英雄). At the end of the son, the two top teams play against each other. Many baseball fans go along to watch the game. Millions of(数以百万计的)others listen to the radio and watch TV. People seem to talk only about the game. Even long after is over, they still talk about the result(结果)and the players.

　　American football is perhaps even more popular than baseball in the USA. The football season begins when the baseball season ends. When there is an important game, thousands of people sit beside the radio or in front of the television set to hear the result.

　　Frankfurters were named after the city of Frankfurt, Germany. About 1900, an American selling cooked frankfurters called them hot dogs because they looked like a kind of small dog.

　　Ice-cream cones were first sold at the World's Fair (博览会) in St. Louis Missouri, in the USA, in 1904. A scoop (圆勺) of ice cream was put into a cone(圆锥形之物). You eat the ice cream, then you eat the cone-nothing left to throw away.

　　Sandwiches were named after the Earl of Sandwich, a rich man in England in the 1705. While he was playing cards, he asked a servant(佣人) to bring him two piece of bread with a piece of meat between them. This was the first sandwich.

　　In the world, soccer or football is the most plpular sport. This is because many countries have wonderful teams for the World Cup. The World Cup is held every four years.

　　To remember 2002 FIFA World Cup, children from differeent countries and mote than 60 children from Japanese school came together and spent three weekends drawing a brig picture called “Dream World Cup” in Japan. The children drew animals, flowers and people playing soccer under a blue bright sky. They wished each football team good luck by drawing the flags(旗帜)of al countries that will take part in the World Cup in Japan and South Korea. The picture was put up in a park near a playground in Yokahama. Some football teams will have games there.
