Leonardo da Vinci began painting the Mona Lisa in 1503. He was working on an important painting for a church at the time, but the church painting was not going well. The 12th lunar (阴历的) month in China is called la yue. The character “la” in Chinese language means to respect gods and give best wishes to them.
