Young people can have problems with their minds. Some students become worried because they have to study very hard and they have too much homework to do every day. Others have trouble getting on well with people like their teachers and classmates.

Liu Wei, a junior 2 student from Shandong, could not understand his teacher and was doing badly in his lessons. He became so worried about it that he started to cut his finger with a knife.

Another student, Xiao Li from a university in Shanghai, got on badly with his roommate, Xiao Huang. He killed his roommate Xiao Huang by poisoning(投毒) the water in the drinking machine(饮水机) in their dormitory.

A recent report says about 18% of teenagers have mental(精神上的) problems. Their troubles include being worried and very unhappy, and having problems in learning and getting on with people. Many students who have problems won’t go for advice or help. Some think they will look stupid(愚蠢) if they go to see a doctor. Others don’t want to talk about their secrets.

Mo Yan, a well-known Chinese writer, won the Nobel Prize for literature(文学) in 2012. He was also the first Chinese writer who got this prize in history. She said it didn’t matter if a person didn’t have a good look and it was important to work hard and never give up. She hoped that his son would be a useful person in society.

Mo Yan didn’t let her mother down. He worked hard at writing. He wrote many famous novels, such as Hong Gao Liang(《红高粱》)and Wa(《娃》). His success tells us a truth,“Nobody can beat you unless you beat yourself.”Hold on to your dream and your dream will come true in the end.
