It was already late when we started going to the next town. It was about 15 miles away on the other side of the hill. There we felt sure that we would find a bed for the night. Darkness fell along the narrow road to the hill. As se climbed higher, it became colder and rain began to fall. It was difficult at times to see the road, so I asked my friend John to drive slowly.

We travelled for about 20 miles but we couldn’t find the town. We were beginning to feel worried. Then the car stopped. We found that we were out of petrol (汽油), so we decided to spend the night in the car.

After eating some bread, I tried to go to sleep at once, but John, a poor sleeper, got out of the car after a few minutes and went for a walk up the hill. Soon, he came running back. From the top of the hill he saw the lights of the town in the valley below. At once, we tried to push the car to the top of the hill. In less than an hour we were in the town, and we found a hotel there easily.

The story happens on an island (岛)called Berk. Hiccup, a Viking (维京人) teenager, lives with his tribe (部落) on the island. The Vikings are strong and good sailors(水手). They often go on adventures (探险). Fighting dragons is one of their traditions. Hiccup’s father, Stoick the Vast, is the leader of the island. He hopes his son will become as strong as him and be the leader one day.

But it does not seem to go well for him. Hiccup is nothing like his father. He is weak. People say he is not suitable to be the future leader. But Hiccup is smart and has a great sense of humor.

Now Hiccup and other Viking teens are in Dragon Training. Hiccup will have to show others that he has what it takes to be a fighter.

One day Hiccup hits a dragon with a stone cannon (石炮). He finds the hurt dragon named Toothless. Hiccup sets Toothless free and the two became friends.

But his new friendship goes against the village’s tradition. He has to stop others from killing the dragon!

Will Hiccup be able to save his friend? What difficulties will he have to face? Go to see How to Train Your Dragon, a Hollywood 3D cartoon film. You’ll find the answer. The film comes out on March 26.

Starting a new school term is always exciting. It is a chance to see your friends again. But most exciting of all, the new term is a chance to take up new hobbies. It is common in Britain for students to take up new hobbies after the Christmas holidays. Deciding to start something new is a common New Year plan.

Most schools provide different kinds of hobby classes. Students take them in their free periods or after school. Some classes you have to pay for and others are free. For example, I once took a free Wednesday evening gymnastics (体操) class in my school. But when I learnt how to play the drum(鼓) my parents had to pay for the lessons.

The most popular hobby classes at my school were piano lessons and drama club. Both classes offered exams students could take. Students with many hobbies sometimes felt more stressed than those without any. But the students with hobbies left school with some more skills.

I haven’t continued any of the hobbies I began at school. But I have never regretted(遗憾、懊悔) taking them. My best friend today is someone I met in my gymnastics class.
