When the farmer felt that his life had to come to an end, he called his three sons to him and said, “Dear sons, there is a pot of gold hidden somewhere in the olive orchard. Go and dig for it if you want it.”

The sons tried to ask him in which part he had put the gold, but he didn’t tell them. After the farmer died, the three sons went to dig for the gold although they didn’t know where the hiding-place was. The boy had bright eyes, and a happy, sunny face, and his looks and manners pleased the king. With a smile Louis asked him his name. He replied that his name was Simon. In answer to further questions, the king learnt that the boy was an orphan: both his father and mother were dead.
