The fight against COVID-19 has lasted for several months.

Zhang Dingyu, the director of Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, leads over 600 doctors and nurses fighting against COVID-19（新型冠状病毒肺炎）, which has caused more than 50 hundred deaths in China.

As Zhang fought against the disease, his strange way of walking shocked his colleagues（同事）.He finally admitted that he had fallen ill with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis （ALS 肌萎缩侧索硬化）since October 2018. He kept this secret for nearly two years until the day he couldn’t walk anymore while on the front lines fighting COVID-19 in Wuhan.

While working with handicapped（瘸的）legs, Zhang received a bad news that brought him to his knees. His wife was confirmed to get infected with COVID-19 after working in another hospital. Zhang could only find time to visit his wife until three days after she got admitted to the hospital. Fortunately, the good news came that his wife had recovered ten days after treatment.

Though it’s a struggle to move quickly, Zhang continues working tirelessly. He said, “I have to run, racing against time to save more patients from the deadly disease.”

Zhang has offered medical services along with Chinese medical teams to Algeria and Pakistan.

Three days after the earthquake hit Sichuan Province in 2008, Zhang entered the city with his medical team members to offer help.
