【题目】 I was feeling a little sad because my mother had lost her job. One day, while I1 (walk) on the street, I heard that a beautiful piece of piano music2(play) above the noise of the people. I walked more slowly 3 (find) out where it was coming from. Then I saw a young lady sitting at a piano.

She was singing songs about love, believing yourself and keeping on4(try). The way she was singing made me 5 (relax). I stood there quietly, watching her playing on such a crowded New York square. I thought that she must be brave enough to perform in front of so many people.

She noticed me. I walked over and 6 (tell) her how good her music sounded. "Thank you." she said. "I have been going through a hard time recently, but you've made me hopeful again." I said to her.

"I'm glad that I could help," she replied. "Why are you so sad?"

"Well, my mom 7 (lose) her job, and I'm not sure what to do ..."

"Did you notice the way you were walking? Your head was down." she said. "8 (not be) upset, because opportunity comes in different ways and if your head is down, you might not see it. You should smile more ... lift your head up."

I looked at her, amazed at how she was encouraging me. "Why are you playing the piano here now?" I asked her with a smile.

She explained that she saw a lot of unhappy people in the world and she tried to cheer them up by playing music. I smiled a little wilder, realizing that no difficulties could stop me from going on.

Researchers from two universities at Chicago discovered 550 children, ages three to six, to learn about how money affects children. The result proved money makes children work harder, but it also makes them less giving.

To avoid raising a selfish generation, parents should talk to their children about money in the following ways according to the Money Advice Service.

Start young

With a five-year-old son or daughter, parents can start talking to them about different types of coins and let them pay for things when out shopping, so they get used to using money.

Open a savings account

Opening a savings account for your child is a great way to show them how their money can grow. It will also start to teach them the very basic ways to invest(投资) and save money.

Provide chances to earn money

Provide chances for your kids to earn money. Encourage them to work for it. From a young age, offer payment for “extra” work around the house and yard.

Make it step by step

Parents should introduce their child's education about money step by step.

If parents haven't spoken before about savings and how to use money, don't jump in with one long chat, as it will become boring with money grows.

Be consistent(坚持的)

Although most parents give their children pocket money, only 36% of parents say they do so regularly. Being irregular can actually make it harder for children to learn about using money.

【题目】Many teachers believe that hands-on experiences are the best way to learn. A group of students in the United Sates is putting that belief to the test.

The students are from the Stevens Institute of Technology. They successfully designed and built a robot for discovering mines at the bottom of the sea. The underwater robot is called Perseus II. It costs about $15,000 to build. The students made the robot to answer a challenge from the U.S. Department of Defense(国防部).

The students use a video game controller to direct its movements. Devices known as

thrusters enable the robot to go up, down and toward its target in the water. Video cameras on the robot send images back to a computer through a 13-meter-long cable(电缆). Perseus II also has a set of lasers(激光), they are used to measure the size of an object.

The robot is the creation of five college students. They worked for over six months to design and build Perseus II.

"Their goal was to go down and find the mine and not only just find it but provide information to an expert on the surface so he or she could make a decision whether it was something dangerous or not before they removed it," Michael DeLorne said.

Perseus II was successfully tested in Florida with similar robots built at other engineering schools. In a separate development, new students at the Stevens Institute of Technology have already started on the next project. It is a flying vehicle they are calling Perseus III.

1Why did the five college students make the robot?

A. To go up, down and toward its target underwater.

B. To provide information to an expert on the surface.

C. To answer a challenge from the Department of Defense.

D. To prove hands-on experiences is the best way to learn.

2Which of the following is NOT part of Perseus II?

A. a set of lasers B. a computer

C. video cameras D. a video game controller

3.What does the word “mine” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean ?

A. 宝藏 B. 海鱼 C. 矿井 D. 水雷

4What can we infer(推断) about Perseus III according to the passage?

A. Perseus III may be used in the sky.

B. Perseus III has been successfully tested in Florida.

C. Perseus III will cost more money and time.

D. Perseus III and Perseus II are made by the same students.

Holmes was talking about the Baskerville case with me.

The picture showed us that Stapleton was indeed a Baskerville. He was the s1of Roger Baskerville, who was Sir Charles’ younger brother. Roger was a criminal who ran from prison. Everyone thought he had died unmarried, but that was not true. He m2 and had one son, a3 called Roger, whom we knew as Stapleton. Stapleton discovered that he would inherit(继承)the Baskerville lands i4 Sir Charles and Sir Henry both died. When he met Sir Charles, he heard the story of the hound---huge dog. He also learned that Sir Charles believed these super natural stories, and that he had a w5heart.

Stapleton bought a huge hound and used the phosphorus( )to make it shine l6 the hound in the story.

Then Stapleton made Laura Lyons write a letter to b7 Sir Charles to the moor gate on that sad night. The hound, which was s8 with phosphorus, ran after Sir Charles. Sir Charles was so afraid that his heart s9, and he died, but the criminal did not touch the dead body.

The hound had run on the grass, so it left no footprints. Neither he nor the hound had touched Sir Charles so there was no sign of murder. The only two people who might suspect him---his wife and Mrs Lyons could not be certain about what he had done. Anyway, n10 of them would tell the police about him.
