International Day for Protecting Consumers’ Rights

Began:1983

Date: March 15 each year

The International Day for Protecting Consumers’ Rights aims to pay special attention to the consumers and remind consumers of their rights(权利).

The consumers’ rights are legal(合法的) and protected by laws. A consumer shall have the right to get information relating to consumption(消费) and the protection of the rights and interests of consumers. And the whole society shall bear responsibility for the protection of consumers’ legal rights and interests.

There is no doubt that fake(假冒的) and unqualified(不合格的)products are extremely harmful. They endanger people’s health and even threaten people’s lives. So as consumers, we need to protect our rights. When we find the products are fake, we have the right to ask for compensation(赔偿).

Protection for Consumers:

*Every year, the “3.15 ” evening party hosted by CCTV unveils(揭幕) some illegal companies and fake products, in order to raise the consumers’ awareness to protect their own rights.

*If consumers find the shops are cheating, they can call 12315 to protect their rights.

Several strong measures should be adopted to fight against fake and unqualified products. On the one hand ,those who make bad products must be seriously punished by the laws. On the other hand, consumers should learn to know differences between true and false.

The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for older people in China. It started long ago. The festival is on lunar September 9th. Activities are held to show love and respect to old people.

Respecting(尊敬) older people is a tradition in China. That’s because the Chinese know that older people have knowledge and experience that young people can learn. There are many ways in which Chinese people express their respect. When an older person enters a room, everyone stands up. People are introduced from the oldest to the youngest. When we present a book to an older person, both hands are used. Young people always offer their seats to older people on a crowded(拥挤的) subway or bus.

In Western countries, however, older people seldom think they are old. They are called “seniors” instead of “old people”. They’d rather do everything themselves. Even after retirement(退休)they take up hobbies, part-time jobs and new activities to keep their bodies working well. But of course among westerners older people are respected, too. Usually, seniors don’t have to buy tickets for trains and buses. They are given discount(打折) in stores and restaurants.

But western seniors don’t often live with their children alone. For holidays, the families usually meet at their grandparents’ home, and a great smile and a warm hug for their parents are enough for grown children to show their respect.
