I was in the store with Mom and baby Lucy. I was looking at the pictures in a pattern(图案) book, trying to choose what to wear for Halloween.

I wanted to be a princess(公主) but I didn’t get a chance to ask Mom to help me find that page. She was busy. All the women were around Lucy’s pushchair. Mom wasn’t even looking at me. Then Lucy cried(哭) and Mom asked me, “Mary, do you make up your mind?”

I looked down at the book and saw a picture of a kid in a banana costume(服装). I pointed at the “banana”. Mom bought me the banana pattern and a pea-pod pattern for Lucy. When Mom finished making my costume, I knew I had made a mistake. “If I wear the big banana costume to the Halloween party, everyone will laugh at me,” I thought.

When we finally walked to the party, everyone smiled at cute baby Lucy who was on my mother’s back. And when they saw my costume, they smiled, too. Some of them told me I was cute. I guessed people liked bananas. I learned that it didn’t make me upset when people laughed. They thought I was funny in a good way. And guess what! There were three princesses and I was the only “banana” at the party.

A long time ago, a king put a big stone(石头) in the middle of a road. Then he stood behind a big tree to see if anyone would try to move the stone away from the road.

The first people were some rich businessmen. They just walked round it. A few of them even said the king wasn’t good enough because he didn’t make the road easy to walk on. None of them tried to move the stone.

Later a farmer came along. He carried a lot of vegetables. When he walked near the stone, he didn’t walk round it as the businessmen did. He put down his things and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. It took him a lot of time but he finally made it.

Then the farmer picked up his things and was ready to go on his way when he saw a bag in the road. The farmer opened the bag. There were many gold coins(金币) and a note from the king.
