Taiwan is famous for its food. To many of us, it is like heaven for foodies (吃货). Whether you go to restaurants or night markets, there will always be delicious food. The following are four classic Taiwan dishes.

Oyster omelet(蚵仔煎;牡蛎煎)

It seems like it would be easy to make an omelet. But the special ingredients (成分) are what make the oyster omelet unique (独特的). They include oysters, bean sprouts (豆芽) and sweet potato starch (薯粉). What makes a good oyster omelet? People from Taiwan have their own secret — The bigger the oysters, the better.

Coffin (棺材) bread

The name may sound scary but the food is just the opposite. People cut the toast (吐司面包) into the shape of a box and make a lid (盖) with the rest. The lid makes it look like a coffin. In the “coffin”, there is a seafood soup with pork, mushrooms, peas and carrots. Just break off bits of the bread walls as you eat your way through the soup.

Drunken Chicken

Drunken Chicken dishes in Taiwan are usually cooked with Shaoxing wine. Some restaurants even serve these dishes with lots of herbs and vegetables. If you like eating meat but don’t want to put on weight, you could try this instead of fried and oily street food.

Beef noodles

This simple dish means a lot to the city of Taipei. They even have a festival for it every year. Put hand-pulled noodles in a spicy (辣的) soup, top it with beef, vegetables, and pickled greens (腌菜), and a bowl of tasty beef noodles is finished. Most places don’t make the soup too spicy because Taiwanese are not traditionally used to be heat.

I've loved my mother's desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as mother sat writing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper, I thought that the act of writing is the coolest thing in the world.

Years later, during her final illness, my mother kept different things for my sister and my brother.“But the desk,” She said, “it's for Helen.”

Although I knew she loved me and she only showed it in action, I wanted heart?to?heart talks between mother and daughter. But they never happened. And a gulf opened between us. I was “too emotional (易动感情的)”,but she lived “on the surface”.

I had my own family later. I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she forgave me. I posted the letter and waited for her answer. It didn't come.

My hope turned to disappointment, then little interest and finally, peace—it seemed that nothing happened. I wasn't even sure if the letter had got to mother. I only knew that I had written it, and I never heard from her!

Now the present of her desk told, as she'd never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside—a photo of my father and a one?page letter, folded and refolded many times.

Give me an answer, my letter asks, in any way you choose. Mother, you always chose the act that speaks louder than words.

Mother's Day is celebrated in the USA. It is also a holiday in some other countries. It is on the second Sunday in May. It is a day to thank mothers. On that day mothers usually receive flowers or cards. On the cards, children will write “Thanks, Mom”,“To the best mother in the world”, “Best wishes for Mother's Day” and so on. We should make mothers happy on that day.

Where does the idea for the holiday come from? We should thank Miss Anna M.Jarvis. She brought up the idea of having such a day. She lived in West Virginia. Her mother died on May 9th, 1905.She had a deep love for her mother. She wrote letters to some important persons. In her letters she asked them to decide a day for all mothers. Then Mother's Day was made on the second Sunday in May by the USA in 1913.

In China, children give presents to their mothers on Mother's Day, or the whole family go out and try to do something nice for their mothers.
