Do you still remember the scores in your past exams? Perhaps the only test score that I remember is the 55 I got when I was in high school.
The test was the final for a course. I remembered waiting anxiously (焦虑地) as my teacher Mr. Right passed out our papers one by one. It was a rather 1.___________ test. I heard my classmates groaning (叹息), and I could tell by the groans that the scores weren’t looking good.
Mr. Right put my paper on my desk. There in big red numbers, was my score, 55! I lowered my head, and 2.___________ the score up quickly. A 55 is not something that you wanted your classmates to see. “The scores were not very good, none of you 3.____________,” Mr. Right said. “The4.____________ score in the class was a 55.”
A 55? That’s me! I didn’t feel so bad. I had the highest score. I felt a lot 5.____________.
I walked home alone that day with the low but high score. My mother6.___________ that I had a big test that day and asked me as soon as I got home, “How did you do in your test?” “I made a 55,” I said. A frown (皱眉) now stood on my mother’s face. I knew I had to 7.___________ at once. “But Mum, I had the highest score in the class,” I proudly said. I thought that explanation would make a difference. “You 8.___________!” my mother replied. “But it’s the highest!” I insisted (坚持). “I don’t care what scores others had, but you failed. What matters is what you do!” my mother firmly said.
For years, my mother was 9.__________ in that way. It didn’t matter what others did, it only mattered what I did and that I did it excellently.
We often don’t understand the 10.___________ of good parents until we ourselves stand in the parents’ shoes. My mother’s words have helped me throughout life.
A report in a newspaper says that school accidents, such as food poisoning(食物中毒),fires, electricity and traffic, kill more primary and middle school students than anything else.So we must learn how to protect ourselves better. Here are some tips for keeping safety in mind every day.
On our way home or to school:Wait for the green traffic light, and look left and right before we cross the road. We’d better wear bright-color clothes,so the drivers can see us easily.Don't believe strange people in the street.
At school: When students around us begin to push each other,we need to stand still and try to hold onto something,or stay in a corner until the crowd leaves. If we fall down in a moving crowd, use both hands to cover the head.Lean to one side, curl up(蜷缩) our body and bend(使弯曲) the legs.
In a fire:Stay calm.Leave the classroom quickly under the directions of the teachers.Smoke can be more dangerous than fire,so use a piece of cloth to cover our mouth and nose. What will we do if the clothes burn? Remember not to rum Drop and fall to the ground. Then roll! It will make the fire go out.
For eating: Wash fruits carefully before eating them.Check the expiration dates(保质期) on the packages of the snacks, and if it look or smell bad, don’t eat it.
