【答案】

1Can they be delivered

2can be sent

3will be closed

4should they be taken

【解析】

本篇文章难度适中,主要讲述两人就订花发生的对话。

1根据When would you like them to be delivered以及No flowers ________2________(can send) on Monday可知,问的是“花能在周一被递送吗?”。用they代替flowers,主语theydeliver之间为被动关系,故填Can they be delivered。

2主语No flower与谓语send之间为被动关系be done,且有情态动词can,后用动词原形,故填can be sent。

3主语shop与谓语close之间为被动关系be done,且will后用动词原形,故填will be closed。

4根据235, Hanson Road可知,问的是“他们要被送到哪?”。特殊疑问句结构为特殊疑问词+一般疑问句”,且情态动词后用动词原形,故填should they be taken。

【题目】Amanda Kitts is one of “tomorrow’s people” people who have artificial (人工的) body pats. She has a bionic(电子操控的)arm.

Now, Kitts runs a day -care center. Children run up to her

happily as she comes into the classroom. She bends over to talk with a small girl. As she bends Kitts puts her hands on her knees. For most people, this would be easy. However, just a few years

ago, this was impossible for Kitts.

In 2006, Kitts was in a car accident. A truck crushed(挤坏) her left arm and the doctor had to

cut it off. "I was angry, sad, depressed. I just couldn't accept it," she says. But then she heard about a new technique that could use the remaining nerves(神经) in her shoulder to contort an artificial arm.

In a difficult operation, a doctor moved Kitts's nerves to different mens of her upper- arm muscles. For months, the nerves grew. Millimeter by millimeter, they moved deeper into their new homes. “At three months I started feeling little tingles and twitches(刺痛和抽搐),”she said. A month later, she got her first bionic arm. A research engineer worked with Kitts to make the computer programs match her real movements more and more closely.

Today, Kitts's arm is great, but it's not yet perfect. She wants feeling in her hands. For example, she needs to feel whether something is rough or smooth. She also needs feeling to do one of her favorite things-drink coffee "The problem with a paper coffee cup is that my hand will close until it gets a solid grip,” she says. One time at a coffee shop, her hand kept closing until it crushed the cup. The story of Romeo and Juliet takes place in Verona in Italy. Two families, the Montagues and the Capulets, hate each other so much that they fight on the street whenever they meet.

One of these families, the Capulets, holds a big party. They introduce their daughter Juliet to a rich nobleman (贵族), Count (伯爵) Paris, who has asked to marry her. Juliet is nearly 14, and her parents are keen for her to marry soon.

That night, at the party, Romeo, the son of the Montague family, meets Juliet and they fall in love at first sight. However, Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, knows Romeo is from the Montague family and wants to kill him. Romeo hides in the garden and talks to Juliet when she appears on her balcony. The next day they go to a priest (神父) called Friar Lawrence, who marries them in secret.

Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, gets angry very easily. He starts a fight with Romeo’s best friend. When Romeo steps in to break up the fight between the two men, his best friend is accidentally killed. Romeo runs after Tybalt in anger and kills him. Romeo is sent away from Verona. But Friar Lawrence, the priest who organized the secret wedding between Romeo and Juliet, arranges for them to spend one night together as husband and wife.

Meanwhile, the Capulets decide that Juliet must marry Count Paris at once. When Juliet says that she doesn’t want to, her parents are very angry with her. Of course, they do not know that she has already secretly married Romeo. Juliet asks Friar Lawrence to help her to see Romeo again. Friar Lawrence has an idea - he gives Juliet a drug which will make everyone think that she is dead. But in fact she’s only in a long, deep sleep. While Juliet is sleeping, Friar Lawrence sends a message to Romeo to tell him to come to her tomb (坟墓) and take her away.

When the guests arrive for Juliet’s wedding the next day, they find Juliet’s lifeless body. Believing she is dead, her family put her in their tomb. Sadly, Romeo never gets Friar Lawrence’s message that Juliet has taken a drug and is really alive. He only hears that she is dead. Romeo returns to Verona, and goes to Juliet’s tomb. There, inside the tomb, he meets Count Paris, who has also come to say goodbye to Juliet. The two fight and Romeo kills him. Romeo still believes that Juliet is dead, so he drinks poison (毒药) and dies. But soon after this, Juliet’s drug stops working and she wakes up. Do you ever throw away food at home? Have you ever thought about what happens to the food that shops and supermarkets don’t sell? Well, you might be shocked (震惊) to find out that nearly one third of food produced for human gets lost or wasted. What’s more, around 800 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy life.

Many people in the UK and across the world are trying to do something about this imbalance and make use of thrown-out food that can be perfectly eaten. For example, there is a cafe in Leeds (UK) whose meals are all created using unsold food from supermarkets, including a lot of vegetables, fruit, fish and other things. This unwanted food is turned into delicious soups and all kinds of dishes that feed the hungry people of Leeds. Customers simply pay what they can afford, or help with the washing up. In just ten months, 10,000 people were fed at this cafe, using twenty tons of unwanted food!

Also, last year the UK’s first food waste supermarket opened. The supermarket is near Leeds and works on a “pay as you feel”; customers pay whatever they want for the produce. The stock (库存) changes daily but you can usually find things such as fresh vegetables, fruit and milk there. Some low-income families have said that it has changed their lives.

“Fuel for School” is another food waste project. Surplus (多余的) food from supermarkets such as vegetables, fruit and bread is used to feed hungry schoolchildren whose families may not be able to afford to buy them lunch.

I lived in Leeds for three years, and have had lunch at a food waste cafe, and it was delicious. I couldn’t believe that it was all food that supermarkets had thrown away! I have also taken part in projects such as “Foodcycle”, using supermarkets’ unwanted food to cook meals for poor people.

More cafes like this are being opened in other parts of the UK, and it is now becoming popular in the world. I think this is an amazing act as food waste is one of the world’s biggest problems. I also believe that the law should be changed, so that supermarkets don’t throw away so much perfectly good food!

1800 million people in the world can’t live a healthy life because of ______.

A. unsold food B. unwanted food

C. being unable to work D. being short of food

2According to the passage, the writer agrees that ______.

A. buying the waste food can protect the environment

B. all the people in the world make use of waste food

C. food waste in the world can be solved by the UK soon

D. the government should make the law to stop food waste

3What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?

A. To encourage people to save food.

B. To introduce some supermarkets in the UK.

C. To share his personal experience in saving food.

D. To explain why he cooked meals for poor people.
